Guide channels disappearing

Hey there,

Theres a few old / quiet threads on this problem, one of which I tried to reply to but it was just too old, so heres another one.

I am having problems with channels disappearing from the guide, pretty frustrating to say the least. I am also getting some scattered 23 errors and also the occasional one of these:

"The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( Media Center Scheduler ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: Update Request with new Guide data caused an exception.."

Last night I started a fresh with the guide config by renaming

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\eHome\EPG

and re running the guide setup. Which seems to have resolved the exceptions.

But channels keep disappearing from the guide !! But - I have noticed one re-producable behavior.

Channels disappear very reliably when I choose a channel, am viewing the TV and leave the guide open selected on that channel with the tv running in the minimised display. After about a minute, the currently viewed channel just disappears with a friendly MCE 'beep". I could do this over and over again until the guide is down to zero channels. It seems to happen every minute or so. Doing a Get Latest guide data fixed it most of the time, sometimes a MCE restart requuired

Running the great 'filemon' utility from sysinternals, I noticed that is seemed to correspond with ehrec.exe very regularly querying guide data and performing a lot of write operations..

Ok so heres where it gets interesting. I actually have a, ahem, 'optimised' termsrv.dll which allows concurrent rdp logins so I can log in from work during the day and do whatever i like with my home DSL and other machines.. I thought I'd see if I have the same problem without a second user logged in.. And - its all good.. I cannot reproduce my problem any more, and, looking again at filemon, the activity from errec.exe is a lot more orderly with only the occasional QUERY INFORMATION, OPEN, and CLOSE file operations on the guide in

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\eHome\EPG

So I am not sure 100% whats going on here and its only been a few hours so maybe this isnt a solution after all but definately intruiging. Maybe even with the replaced DLL, theres plenty of reasons for XP not to be used as a terminal server and it may actually interfere with MCE under some circumstances.

My question is, do others with disappearing channels also run concurrent RDP logins ??? I guess it would be a step forward if a number of people out there confirmed what I have found.

Cheers !
