Is HD Really HD/ Why do I get sound on my HD channels.

Edit: Hi Bilboboggles, I've moved the initial thread you posted to the Hardware forums here as suggested. I'll close this thread to avoid any confusion.

Cheers,
Arkay.

Hi All,

I have read numerous threads about HD audio channels not working with the Fusion card in an MCE 2005 box. I am now a bit confused because I have this setup

1) Windows MCE2005 (But NOT the rollup patch, so I do not have all of the HDTV options)
2) Fusion HDTV Plus card
3) I don't have surround sound only stereo output on the PC (Lack of funds so far)

I can get what appears to be stereo sound on all channels even those marked as HD in the channel list, I can receive around 25 channels which seems OK from what I have read. I have installed a number of codecs to handle playback of DIVX etc type movies.

For Example if I enable all of the Channel 7 channels I get a 7-HD channel, on this channel I see and hear pretty good quality widescreen TV. I also get amazing quality on the SBS HDTV channel. The HD channels don't seem to show a different picture to the other channels, but do show the appropriate 16:9 aspect ration when the station is transmitting a widescreen image.

My Questions are:
1. Why does my sound work on the HD channels?
2. How can I tell if my HD channels are HD? Perhaps I am being amazed by what is really SDTV and that if I somehow got HDTV working I would be totally knocked out?

Thanks in advance for any feedback.
Stuart
