Re: SD works fine, HD stutters on channels 2,7,SBS

It's most likely the Purevideo codec. Tests I did last night revealed it still hasn't been fixed and gets the de-interlacing modes stuffed up on some HD broadcasts.

Ditch it and try the Cyberlink Power DVD 6 codecs. They work much better at this point in time.

If you don't want to do that minimise MCE when watching live tv and open the purevideo properties from the task tray, change the de-interlace setting from smart to film, then go back to live TV and see if it improves. Do that for all the different deinterlacing modes and you'll find that some work well for some stations, and others for others.. A total pain in the rear end and (in my opinion) a good reason NOT to use Purevideo.

Cheers,
Arkay.

Re: SD works fine, HD stutters on channels 2,7,SBS

I tried the Nvidia Purevideo codecs and got the same bad movement on 7, ABC and SBS. I reinstalled the DVICO USB drivers ONLY (includes the mpeg codecs from the driver CD) and every channel is now smooth.

Only problem with that is the DVICO codec will only work for DVICO cards as far as I know.

Maybe they've changed it so it will work for all cards as long as at least one of them is a DVICO.

Cheers,
Arkay.

Re: SD works fine, HD stutters on channels 2,7,SBS

Currently I'm using the Avermedia drivers from the download section of this great site. Are these drivers 2.1 the most optimal drivers for my 2 Avermedia A16A cards. Also anyone using the como tower in Melbourne had sucess with these cards?

Thanks

Not sure on that one. I'll let someone that has avermedia cards answer as to which driver they use.

Cheers,
Arkay.

Re: SD works fine, HD stutters on channels 2,7,SBS

Its all subjective, of course, but IMO the image quality with the DVICO decoder is abysmal. With the Cyberlink codec, its pretty good, for the most part, but nowhere near as good as PureVideo. But its unfortnate that there's currently no single deinterlace mode that works in purevideo across all HD and SD channels here in sun-bleached Aus.

The CyberLink 7 codec is tipped to include all the purevideo acceleration and deinterlace features, so I'm holding tight till it comes out

Re: SD works fine, HD stutters on channels 2,7,SBS

Severus606, yes you are right, the Dvico codecs do not supply ULTRA smooth motion, but the motion is definitely smoother than what the Nvidia Purevideo provided on the 'good' channels. I didn't find changing the Nvidia Automatic/Smart/Film/Video options to be of any great value. The better option seemed to be 'Automatic'.

I like using programs that have a scrolling marque (ticker tape) to assess silky smooth motion (such as news programs - channel 7's afternoon news is perfect as the scrolling headlines apprear throughout). So far, the smoothest motion I could obtain on all SD and HD channels was to reinstall the Dvico decoders and put the Nvidia motion selection on Automatic. If Cyberlink or Purevideo codecs improve across all channels then I too will be interested.

If you can still adjust the PureVideo codec when watching TV, then despite having the other codecs loaded you are probably still using the NVIDIA codec. I mean if you are using the DVICO mpeg codec then 1. It should not make any difference what the settings are for the Purevideo codec and
2. You would not see the second Nvidia icon in your toolbar with MCE minimized that allows you to change the Purevideo settings.
If you do have more than one Codec loaded either install the ones you dont want to use or use "MICROSOFT WINDOWS XP VIDEO DECODER CHECKUP UTILITY (DECCHECK.EXE)" to select the one windows should use.

Re: SD works fine, HD stutters on channels 2,7,SBS

I had the very same issue, went to cyberlink, all channels work perfectly.

Ch7 was the main problem.

Cyberlink don't seem to update very often, hopefully 7 comes out soon, it doesn't really matter as I am happy with version 6.

Rick.

Re: SD works fine, HD stutters on channels 2,7,SBS

Hello, I found that all HD channels were ok except 7HD. Sound was always out of sync and picture stutters. This is with Purevideo. I turned of the hardware acceleration in purevideo and this fixed it. However, i am not happy with the interlacing using a CRT TV as the quality takes a major blow when there is fast movement on the screen. You literally see all the interlacing lines, and when it's recorded and played back on my LCD screen, all the interlacing has been recorded. Automatic seems to be the best setting for Purevideo, but it's still flawed.
BTW, I use the forceware 81.85, recommended card drivers.

Thanks everyone. Swapped to PowerDVD 6 and these HD channels now fine. Still get occassional flicker. Overall - much improved! Surprised that with all the positive talk of 'purevideo', to see what a flawed product it is!

Re: SD works fine, HD stutters on channels 2,7,SBS

I had trouble with the PureVideo decoder on TV but works perfectly for DVDs.

So I'm using the DVICO decoders instead - I'm usually quite picky about picture quality but I don't perceive any lack of quality and I'm using a decent sized screen.
