My Channel Nine stutter fix

Hi Guys,

first off great site... I've been playing around with my MCE05 for ages now, in fact it's on pretty much all the time now.

I have a dual tuner set up comprising a Fusion Plus PCI card and Avermedia USB 2 External tuner(Like to make like difficult for myself).

Anyway after using MagpieMDPs Clean Install guide I was getting stutter and failure to view or record Channal Nine 99% of the time. After reading through again last night I saw on page 4 about changing the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Tuning Spaces\7\Default Locator “Bandwidth”=dword:00000007 in the reg.

So I thought I'd try and search to see if there where any other occures of the BANDWIDTH key; there were, so I changed them all to “Bandwidth”=dword:00000007, saved the registry and rebooted.

lo and behold no stutter and perfect picture.

So try this and see what happens.

Re: My Channel Nine stutter fix

anyone know what this bandwidth value controls and why it helps?

Re: My Channel Nine stutter fix

OffBeatMammal,

As far as I know, digital TV here in Oz (by default) can use a theoretical bandwidth of up to 7mhz for the current FTA transmissions - my guess is this is why the default is set to "7".

It is theoretically possible for FTA transmissions to use either 6 or 8mhz (I think in Oz the other possibility was 8mhz), but the "gurus" in Canberra decided to err on the side of caution, and besides, why would we ever need that much bandwidth (datacasting - what a dirty word) *wry smile*

Regards,

B.

Re: My Channel Nine stutter fix

what a surprise!
the default installation value is however 0xffffff ... so wondering why dropping all the way down to 7 helps (that said, from limited playing around today it seems to have had a slight improvement)

Sorry... but in the reg... I think you are refering to the registery, but can someone refresh my memory on how to be able to bring this up....
Something like Start--> Run--> then Regedit...? Right?

Re: My Channel Nine stutter fix

Hi guys,
Im getting sutter on channel 9 every, say 20 seconds. Thought it might be cpu overhead but thats fine, does recording an HD stream possibly cause this?

I tried the fix on this page, but after applying changes to reg and restarting, the values just revert...

Any ideas? Thanks.

Wykdtron

Hey . . . if you have a problem with the values reverting to defaults, try this:

1) boot the pc into "safe mode"

2) bring up task manager (start/run/taskman.exe and press enter) and make sure that none of the MCE services are running (typically, they start with eh - "ehshell", "ehtray" etc). If by some remote chance they are, kill the process

3) make the registry changes now, and after a reboot they should hopefully stick!

Regards,

B.

What other area's did you find bandwidth key or did you change all the other settings in "7" to 00000007 (7)
