Stereo not going to all my speakers

Ok I use MCE XP 2005 to play H.264 movies I have encoded in Nero and regular DVD's. I run the stereo output from the back of the computer to an RCA white and red converter and then into my Yamaha AV-1 Cinemastation surround sound controller. The sound controller goes to the subwoofer which then goes to the five speakers. Simply put, I can't get the rear speakers to work on Dolby Pro Logic settings. I can get them to work if I put the controller in Stadium, Mono Movie, and a bunch of other settings, but it turns the front speaker off.

At this point it sounds like a sound system problem, but it's not. I hook my regular XBOX in the same way RCA, and it sends the signal to all the speakers in Dolby Pro Logic, I'm assuming it upmixes the stereo to "fake surround sound" or it just doubles the stereo who knows. That's what i want from MCE. Is my sound card bad too cheap? Is my audio codec bad. I can't get it to work in My Videos or DVD's. I think I'm using the Nero codec, or the powerdvd I can't remember. I don't understand what the problem is because I would think the signal is similar to the stereo signal from my XBOX.

One more question. Why is the audio so low from my MCE computer. I have the computer turned all the way up, its in noisy mode and MCE all the way turned up and I still have to crank my sound system. I'm thinking it's either my audio codec or my audio card.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
