DVD playback is causing crashes

Hi all

Ok, my HTPC has been running fine for a while now, but in the last few days has started crashing whenever I play DVDs. Its happening with all DVDs, anywhere from 30 sec to 5 mins into the main feature. Screen freezes and only a system reset will work.

I'm guessing that maybe the DVD decoder in screwy, but has anyone else got any suggestions?

This is not really the reply that you are looking for, but did you image your operating system drive when the Media Centre was working well? I try to keep a couple of images back using Acronis and on the rare occasion something seems to have been lost or corrupted, I can go back to when it was working.

It also helps to jot a note down, ( I use a seperate small excercise book and try to use it whenever I make changes) whenever you are changing something, such as adding updates.

Having said that, can you update or roll back your DVD driver in device manager?
