Missing Channels ABC and ABC 2

Hi all.

I'm new to media centre but my media centre with FreeEPG stream installed will not pick up ABC and ABC 2 when i do a scan with DTV. The software that comes with the TV tuner (pinnical PCTV 310e) will pick up the channels so its not an antenna problem. Can anyone help

Thanks in advance.

Media centre can be fussy when it comes to reception. How many times have you tried to re-scan for channels? Sometimes you may have to scan 3-4 times to pickup all channels.

No, you do not require EPG to have tv channels. Check your signal and make sure you have enough, but not too much.

Try ScanchannelBDA, I think a link is still in the downloads but if not try searching the net. A word of warning though, there are various versions of it out there and they don't work with all tuners. If it woeks with yours then every time it finds a Tv channel it will report amongs other things the signal strength and signal quality. The latter is most important and the higher the better, 100% is best. Signal strength is another matter as both too high and too low a strength are both bad. If the strength is high you can get inexpensive attenuators from jaycar.

The fact that the propriety program works without a problem does not mesn your antenna is good enough for MCE. MCE is very finicky and errors that propriety programs may ignore or be able to overcome may cause problems with MCE. A lot of us have had to replace antenna and cabling to achieve acceptable reception, even though the original system was fine for TVs, STB's propriety TV programs etc, etc. In replacing the antenna it is generally best to go for one specifically made for digital reception. It is also best to use quad shield cable (as used for satellite reception) and F type connectors.

Best of luck in sorting out your system.

Craig.
