I've just returned to Windows Media Centre & installed it on new hardware. From redaing these forums it seems that the general opinion is not to install XP SP3.
Is this correct or have the issues caused by SP3 been sorted?
My reading of this is that it is best not to install SP3 to a Windows XP MediaCentre 2005 computer unless you have some pressing reason to do so.
Now I have had the little yellow shield in my task bar for a month now wanting to download SP3. I want to still get notified about updates, but I definitely do not want to download SP3. How do I make sure that this download does not appear in the list?

One of the main problems with SP3 is with tuner cards that include a USB host controller (dual tuner PCI cards such as the Dvico Dual 2 & 4 & Nova T 500) & with some motherboard USB controllers. I'd research your motherboard to see if others have issues (in plain Win XP SP3) & if you have a PCI dual tuner, I'd be seeking advice from the manufacturer (pretty sure Hauppauge say no for the Nova T 500).

Do a manual Windows Update & when it comes to selecting the updates you wish to install, de-select SP3 & you should be able to set a "hide this update" option for it.

I know it's a vista link but the drivers are all the same, and there is a specific note about XP SP3. It says don't do it for the Nova-T 500. I have also had problems with the HVR1100.
