First XP MCE setup

I have finally got all my goodies and put them all together.
It is now time to try and install MCE.

This is what I have tried first time round so please point me in the right direction if I have done something wrong.

First the hardware.

AMD4850e
GA-MA78GPM DS2H
4 gig Corsair Ram
Sony BR player
80gig HD
500Gig HD
NOVA T500 Dual DTV tuner
ICETV guide ( 30 day trial )

So I had 1 attempt but am going to redo it again.

1. Installed XP MCE
2. Did auto install from Gigabyte Driver cd ( Which did .NET 2.0 )
3. Did all windows updates ( Including SP3 which I now know not to do )
4. Put Nova driver cd in and installed drivers and tried installing WinTV but it wouldn’t install ?? ( Do I really need it? )
5. Started MCE and tried to tune cards but had no TV option
6. Read the forums in depth and realised I shouldn’t have installed SP3
7. Uninstalled SP3
8. Now started MCE again and tuned cards.
9. Tried to watch TV but got a decoder error
10. Read forums again and installed Mpeg 2 decoder
11. TV works but was skipping a bit and I wasn’t impressed with it

So that is where I am at the moment, I didn’t even get to trying blue rays as I want to get the TV right first.

Is there any codec packs people suggest or any other suggestions that can help me with my build?

And there an updated driver package for the Nova t500?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Re: First XP MCE setup

I have the same tuner card which works well, but make sure you install the australian drivers for it down at newmagic.com.au

if you can't find the drivers let me know and ill send them to you

This may sound silly but what about your video card drivers??

Is onboard Video. So it installed with the mother board drivers.

Thanks again

Re: First XP MCE setup

Hi there,

Double check that you have the xp media centre edition drivers.

If not try googling ATI Catalyst™ 8.7 Display Driver for Windows XP Media Center Edition - Motherboard/IGP Drivers.

cheers

Re: First XP MCE setup

What mpeg-2 decoder did you install. Not all decoders are equal when it comes to XP MCE.

Also, any particular reason you chose to use MCE2005 over Vista when bought all that shiny new hardware?
