Intermittent audio problems

Posting in here as I don't know if it's software, hardware, drivers, what the problem is...

Had this problem for ages, but never really tried to fix it, am now.

I have intermittent sound on channel 7. It is always intermittent. Not just sometimes, nothing can make it work even temporarily. I've seen some people report similar problems, and say they can break it by changing channel or something, but not here.

By "intermittent" I mean "not working 98% of the time and coming in for a second or two".

Completely replaced the host computer a few months ago, same problem before and after.

I've uninstalled and let realtek audio MB driver reinstall themselves.

Strange thing: moved house a while ago, before it was exactly the same EXCEPT it was channel 9!!!

Any bright ideas anyone?
