I've been runnning XP Media Center for 2 years without a problem but recently when trying to watch pay movies on Foxtel the screen starts flashing/blinking after about 5 minutes making the movie simply unwatchable.
I can watch any other channel on Foxtel without an issue.
The Foxtel technician came out and simply changed the Foxtel box which didn't change anything.
Just wondering if any one else has experienced this and if there was a way to solve the problem.
no specific help from me I'm afraid, as I don't subscribe to the Fox movies.
BUT, I have noticed that when watching the AIR Music channels, that after a while of watching, I get flashing/blinking and often then a complete shutdown of my Foxtel box. (Orange light). I remember seeing some articles a while back about some kind of 'do not copy' flag in the broadcast stream which apparently is supported in Media Centre and somehow triggers the Foxtel box to recognise that the flagged content is being recorded (since MCE buffers everything, it's always recording) and the box shuts down. Now I'm not sure if there is any truth to this, but the issue only occurs on the AIR channel, and only has happened since the AIR channel changed from being normal individual channel to being a 'custom' Foxtel multichannel thing. Maybe try the AIR channel (830) and see if you get the same issue??
I would assume that if you go direct from the Foxtel box into your TV, that the issue doesn't occur??
Cheers

Yes, it's due to copy protection on those channels. Strange it is only just happening to you now. Are you on cable or sattelite? I don't watch the pay movies anymore, but when I had the platinum package on cable (so 2 free movies/month), I could not record these channels. I got the same flashing picture through MCE 2005,but no problems direct to TV.
