MCE not picking up any channels with 85% reception

I have DNTV Live! DVB-T (Full Height) card and it works perfect in DNTV live, it sees it in windows media center and when I scan for channels it picks up nothing at all. I have 85%+ reception so no problem there, Its a clean install of xp media centre with all updates installed.

I don’t under stand how it works in DNTV but not MCE?

Any ideas???

Cheers

Re: MCE not picking up any channels with 85% reception

Hi cooper05,

MCE is much more finicky than many propriety TV programs so the fact one works is not a measure of whether MCE will work.

MCE also does not like to live with other TV programs so you are best advised to remove DNTV if you want to use MCE.

First, have you installed RU2? Without it MCE will not tune tv cahnnels. It is available in MS update but is not an automatic update, you have to select it. You should also see if there are any updates to it after you have installed it.

Second, If you have installed SP3 I would recommend reinstalling from scratch and not installing SP3, more people seem to have problems after its installation than those that don't.

MCE requires a prety good signal to work properly, now you say you have 85% reception, how has that been measured? For digital tv there are 2 major measurments, strength and quality. Quality is most important and idealy it should be 100%, some people recon 85% is ok but in my experience it must be higher. Strength on the other hand should not be too high.

One of the best ways to measur the strength and quality is to use a program called ScanChannelBDA, it should be available in the download section, if not do a web search. Be warned that not all tuners work with it and there are some versions of the program that have been written for specific tuners. Try as many as you need to to see if one works with your tuner. then post the results so that we can advise.

A lot of problems are due to poor antenna and cabling systems. The best thing is to have a proper digital antenna and to use quad shield cable and F type connectors.

It may be an idea to have your antenna system checked.

Craig.
