stupid stupid stupid #@$@ Leadtek 2000 H

Hi, this is doing my head in and i suspect i'm coming to a dead end here. I've put together a fairly basic setup as a HTPC at the moment,

P4 2.4
1GB
Radeon 9200 (this is actually not the problem though)
Leadtek 2000 H
XP Mce 2005 rollup 2 sp3...

The problem is that using plain XP pro (which I had before) I have no problems running the winfast pvr2 software, the card has all the latest drivers etc, all is well. But i'm not satisfied with the reliability of the software and have been experimenting to get the thing running on MCE 05, which I managed to buy a copy of. Ironically, the thing I thought would solve my problem is doing my head in! In MCE it just tells me that

"the tuner hardware is either malfunctioning or not installed..."

I have tried Winfast PVR2 in MCE - runs but no mce
tried drivers + no PVR2
tried broadstars thread;
Get Most Cards To Work In Mce

This was a clean install, and have installed and re-formatted it 3 times now.

I got nothing. :/

Could someone just tell me it won't work so i can be put out of my misery. I don't want vista, probably not the best system for it Since i've paid for it, (begrudgingly too) I just want it to go!?!

Hey there

have you tried a clean install without putting SP3 on?...this is a newish release and there are various tales of it not playing properly in MCE machines.

Make sure you are quite sytematic in the order you do things i.e. clean install , drivers installed only, all critical updates ( not SP3) install a decoder then set up the tv card.(Don`t put the cards software on)

If you search around here there is a good guide to doing a fresh install...worth a try

My 0.02

Re: stupid stupid stupid #@$@ Leadtek 2000 H

thanks jaiidan,

yeah, I've tried that, from what i'm starting to think it's to do with the fact that the 2000 h is a hybrid tuner. It's got certification for vista but not xp mce, althought the drivers are on the site as xp and xp mce. what really gets me is that i can't help thinking if i could somehow trick the card into thinking it was just a digital tuner, and forget the hybrid bits it would help...

have people got this card to work in the past with the mce interface do you know?

the only posts I can find to that effect tend to say that they got it working after some time, but i haven't been able to suss out whether they are referring to the mce interface or pvr... hmmm....

Leadtek also do/did a certified xp mce pvr2000 but I d/l the drivers for that on the off-chance i could trick it but they're actually the same drivers :/

good distraction from studying for exams though

Re: stupid stupid stupid #@$@ Leadtek 2000 H

right. The problem was with the installation. Jaaiden was right in saying an xp mce clean install, although the results of which were not entirely predictable. I'm trialling powerdvd decoder at the moment, seems pretty good, still crashes now and again, but the fact that it allows support of the HW encoding on the card has to be a good thing. Not sure if i can get analog and digital working together as yet. Digital seems fine, but it would be good to be able to watch one channel and record another. I can get mce to recognise the analog tuner (viaa patch) but not detect any channels? weird, it was working in pvr2... curious as to whether this functions in vista mce? if anyone has managed to get this going in xp mce, i'd appreciate some tips

Re: stupid stupid stupid #@$@ Leadtek 2000 H

Hi Just noticed your post did you get it working?
I have the same card and it works fine.
I think the thing that helped me was installing cole2k driver pack.
