help needed on upgrade from windows XP Home Edition to MCE

I've just bought the Remote with MCE OEM edition. When I did the upgrade, it upgraded me to Professional Edition, but it looks as though I didn't get MCE. Any clues?

Thx

Siobhan

Re: help needed on upgrade from windows XP Home Edition to MCE

I don't know that an upgrade is possible.

Did the MCE setup ask for the second disk during install?

Re: help needed on upgrade from windows XP Home Edition to MCE

Attempting to do an upgrade results in errors at best... at worst does not install the MCE components.

To use MCE - you unfortunately must do a fresh install - you must use the 2 Windows XP MCE disks, and above all - if you use an XP Key, you get XP - You have to use the supplied MCE software Key for a proper MCE installation...

Now having said all that - do you know what MCE is and how it looks? To the beginner - MCE will look exactly like XP... until you click on Start and see a little green button labelled Media Center

Thumbs up Re: help needed on upgrade from windows XP Home Edition to MCE

Thanks, I finally worked it out fo rmyself that it had to be a new install (That is SO dumb) but I guess comes fromMicrosoft not meaning for his to be "customer installable". So, I blew away my old installation (Fortunately all my user files were on a different partition) and now I'm re-installing all my old programs.

Thanks for the help though

Siobhan

P.S. amazingly (considering I'm an IT techie) I read te "documentation" that came with the OEM version first, so I knew about the green button.

Just had to check about the green button - I have seen a post or two before, where the user must have anticipated the MCE screens would be the whole system and didnt expect to have XP under neath it - lol...

Gotta check these things - but Im worried about you.... reading manuals - nah - just go for it...

Best of luck and enjoy!
