Region Free DVD

Hi guys,

I have just built my new MCE (2 actually, 1 for me and 1 for mate) and the new DVD drive does not have a firmware update to make it region free (Pioneer DVR-A12XLC) so am looking at using something like Slysofts AnyDVD or DVDIdles DVD Region+CSS Free.

Has anyone got any experience with these and words of wisdom.

Thanks,

John.

Re: Region Free DVD

AnyDVD does the job perfectly for MCE, and you get free updates forever it seems. They even have helpful online service if you need to reinstall AnyDVD (and get a new installation key).

I've had no experience with DVDIdle.

Re: Region Free DVD

I vote for anyDVD. Using it for a bit and as I do not even notice it is there which is my idea of a good program.

I tired Region Free but had some issues with somes DVDs not working right. I think it was DVDs that had interactive software installed.

Re: Region Free DVD

I use DVDIdle and have never had any problem with it (under with MCE 2005 or Vista).

You can download their DVDFabDecrypter program too (it's free) to copy your DVD's onto your hard drive for inclusion into your DVD library.

Re: Region Free DVD

ANyDVD for me too, been using it for years and it's never steered me wrong. If you ever go down the path of Blu-Ray or HD-DVD, it also removes the HDCP restrictions on those formats, so it really is quite a nice little proggie.

Re: Region Free DVD

Hi Simbot,

Thanks for the heads up on DVD43. It looks like it will do the job (and its free!).

Has anyone else got any experience with this?
Can anyone report good or bad stories with it?

F.
