USB Power Key registry hack?

G'day to all.
I wish to apply the above registry hack but I'm not 100% sure how to.
Once I've located the 'USB' registry entry do I simply create the 2 entries listed here?

USB Power Key hacks
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\usb]
"USBBIOSHACKS"=dword:00000000
"USBBIOSx"=dword:00000000

Could someone please advise me on how to do so?
Are they entered as new 'dword values' or other?

Thanks in advance,
Ruffy

PS: I tried to reply in the 'Registry Hacks' thread but was unable to, more than 123 days old?

ruffy01,

You can simply add the key values as you suspect. Yes they are dwords. If you have them in a .reg file you can simply double click on it as an alternative.

Or you can just use the MCE Standby Tool.

You don't have to install it, just run int and check or uncheck the options you want.

Be carefull with the USBBIOSHACKS, sometimes it solves problems, somtime is causes them.
The only way to find out if your system needs it is just by trying.

Re: USB Power Key registry hack?

Thanks for your replies DDH & hveijk.
Sorry about the tardy response but only tonight did I get a chance to test your suggestions.

The bios hacks worked perfectly, eventually, I had to play with the power settings.
I had both the 'power' & 'sleep' button's set to hibernate, I found if I set the 'sleep' button to 'stand by' then all worked well
Without the bios hack it didn't work.

I'm yet to try the 'MCE stand by tool' hveijk; does it work/behave any differently?

Cheers guys, points deserved.

Ruffy

You can use the MCE Standby Tool (MST) to make all the appropriate power management settings. It has pre-define sets of settings for all sleep modes (S1, S3 and S4). By selecting the sleep state you want to use it makes all the settings required, even the hidden ones for which you normally need to edit the registry or use tools like dumppo.

It does not need to be installed to make these settings.

Besides that is has some supporting (active) functions, like closing the MCE shell at suspend and rebooting the system once every day etc. These may help the system to properly use the standby functions.

It is required to install the tool for these options.

My full name is Herman van Eijk,

just call me Herman.

I use this alias because it seems to be available on everything I like to register to.
