Red face guide losing channels

Hello all,

I know this is an ongoing problem and I have read a number of posts regarding this but no real answers yet. Overall my WAF is very high apart from this last one nagging problem.

I have the problem where on a regular interval I will loose all the channels from guide and it will say "No Channels do you want to scan for more service."

1 - I have tried marking perf.xml as read only
2 - I have tried disabling the automatic guide download.

Does anyone know of a permanent solution for this?

Side note I have noticed it seems to happen more often if I watch a lot of live TV rather than say videos or DVD.

Thanks

Re: guide losing channels

Is there anything in your Event Viewer that may suggest what the issue is? ie. database corruption...

Re: guide losing channels

Nah not the last few times I have checked. All normally looks fine no errors or anything. I had the problem yesterday so I will go check again tonight.

What I normally do when I get the error now is just do a restore as it gets the system working again in under 5mins.

I know from things I have tried in the past that if I do not reboot and try to do a scan I will end up with a echost.exe crash.

Sometimes I can reboot it then scan for new channels and this will fix it, but not allways.

Sometimes if you just leave it alone for an hour or so it will start working again.

All very strange and annoying.

I am using a 2400i dual TV card. My next step is try the latest drivers but I have a feeling this will not fix it.

Re: guide losing channels

This does sound like a symptom of the guide database crashing. I have seen the same problem on occassions. Check your application event log. You will probably find lots of red X's all dealing with guide database access errors and similar.

I have posted on the problem here and there is a link there to an MSDN blog that details the problem. I have also posted a work-around that may help.

Re: guide losing channels

Thanks for your response.

This sounds a little like the problem I am having. I do not have any problems with scheduled recordings (assuming the guide does not break just before the recording starts) it is more Live TV.

I have not tried this one yet.

I will give this a go and post the results.

Fingers crossed it works.
