System Freezes during Recorded TV Playback

I have just returned from a week holiday and now whenever I play recorded TV some of the recorded programs freeze while playing. This causes my whole system to freeze and the only way to fix is a re-boot. When I try and play the same recorded program it freezes in exactly the same place. This does not happen with all my recorded Tv programs but it does happen over all channels. Live TV is still working OK. I have restored back to before I went on holiday when the System was working Ok but that has not fixed the problem.

I was origanally running PowerDVd 7 but started having problems with some channels. I now have WinDVD 7 and was OK until a week ago. I have noticed that the problem happens even I run through Windows Media Player. I am thinking I am getting a conflict between PowerDVd and WinDVD even though I have removed PowerDVD. Mybe it is still running the video codec of PowerDVD.

Does anyone know what the problem may be and a solution to it. I did notice even though I have installed WinDVD it does not appear on my program list.

Re: System Freezes during Recorded TV Playback

Last time this happened to me it was a bad HDD. Run a sector scan.

Cyberlink installs a program to control picture quality in More Programs, maybe something there

Re: System Freezes during Recorded TV Playback

Hi

I`ve been trialling the 3 main codecs in last few days and one thing that I did get with windvd 7 was that on live tv if I paused it for a few mins then resumed it would basically freeze while trying to ffwd through adverts and I`d end up having to quit and rejoin live tv....the other 2 codecs were fine in this regard.

I gave up on windvd 7 for this reason

J

Have you tried setting "DsContinousRate" to 1 in the registry? My issue went away when I did this...

No as my problem turned out to be a bad hard drive after doing some scans, now waiting for a replacement. Thanks for your input though.
