Still getting Stutter on SBS and 9

Hi MCE groovers and shakers,

Firstly I just want to say I love this forum. Its given me plenty of hints and tips and that coming from someone who hates online IM, gaming, communities etc. But as I'm sure you will all atest to, MCE does require a certain sense of leniency.

Anyway.

I origianlly posted my first thread in the introduce section here:

http://www.xpmediacentre.com.au/comm...still-out.html Sorry I still haven't worked out how to do trackbacks correctly!

and Joey999 had some good tips which started me off on the journey to sorting out my stuttering problem Hmmm!!!

Well, after plenty of rollbacks and clean installs. I still can't get rid of the horrible stutter on SBS and the stutter on 9HD that develops after a week or 2.

I am pretty certain that its software decoder driven as the Tuners work fine using DVB-TV which came with my machine.

I was hoping anyone could offer up suggestions as to how I might solve this problem as I'm on my last few WAF points and If I can't get it sorted once and for all, there may be blood spilt

Please help!!!

Heres a list of the things I've already looked at:

* Sorted out cooling issue
* using all the MCE add-on progs - tuner priority, DecCheck, TweakMCE
* Split HDD to record on different partition
* checked DMA - PIO settings on Optical and HDD
* using all the latest drivers and tried older versions including Invidia and PDVD

Heres a list of things i'm left with that might be the cause:

* DVI being sent through VGA converter to Plasma?
* Bad cabling in Apartment, which I cannot check? leading to poor signal from those providers (I have noticed that SBS is on a much higher frequency than the other stations)
* Both TV Tuners attached via Riser card to standard PCI slot?
* Something hogging the BUS and interfering with the HDD?

I'm sure theres more to look at, but if anybody can offer any suggestions on these issues I would be eternally greatfull

Thanks is advance,

CAT.

Re: Still getting Stutter on SBS and 9

Gidday dlp-cat,
Ok I have roughly the same ati chipset, on a gigabyte card.
I have no stutter issues.
I have all catalyst control centre settings set to let application decide, and the rest are set to quality..
I use intervideo Windvd7 7.0.27.130 decoder. Not the latest decoders from intervideo(they now use nvidia purevideo decoder, they caused my system to stutter).
I had problems with getting sorround sound though. I over came this problem by installing ac3filter for my sound..
so try that.

regards Blackjet

Thanks Blackjet,

I didn't realize that intervideo had gone to nvidia decoders, i'll try the older version and see how it goes.

Also, have you found a good scanning program that works well with the Twinhan Tuners? I tried using Scanchannelsdba but it doesn't seem to work. I'm trying to see what signal strength I'm getting in our apartment to see if SBS is a little on the weak side!!!

Cheers

Re: Still getting Stutter on SBS and 9

As far as I know, and I found this out surfing the forums. Its a command line program that searchs the TV frequencies coming through your TV tuners. It apparently gives you info on strength and actual frequency receiving.

I originally found it looking at someones thread, who was having problems with their NOVA-T cards and I think it was designed to only work with those specific cards hence the fact I'm trying to track down a program that will do the same job on my cards!!!

Hope this helps?

Re: Still getting Stutter on SBS and 9

Hey Blackjet,

I got a hold of the Windvd7 7.0.27.130 decoder and no improvement there either. Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

I'm fairly certain its got something to do with the processing of the video signal and not just the decoding or encoding hence I'm trying to re-find that thread about CPU's and HDD's hogging the BUS.

Oh well we keep trying!

Caio
