Re: DVD Cover Grabber

Euan, great work I am now using v0.1.2

- this version seems a lot more stable, I was able to fill in 95% of my covers that were missing from the previous version I was using
- I suspect a few movies on amazons site have the alternate name - such as Mad Max is The Road Warrior, matching is more difficult
- ever tried xXx as a movie - interesting results
- movies it didn't take kindly to - Lock Stock & 2 smoking barrels, Mr & Mrs Smith,
- movies it gave a wrong match (need a retype button) - Carolina, Go, Ray, The Waterboy, US Marshalls, xXx, xXx2 ,

Later,

Nudge

Re: DVD Cover Grabber

Thanks for the feed back. I will see what I can do about the titles not being detected.

I have got contact from Matt Goyer and unfortunately the metadata used in the dvdid files he was talking about is a bit misleading. Basically its faking the dvd info taken from AMG and AMG will not allow some details to be cached on the local machine. Which means I cant fake some of the details from AMG. Which then means I cant get the synopsis... I am really bummed.

Without the synopsis... it just looks empty. I am pretty disappointed microsoft just allow this sort of stuff. I would have expected it to be a bit more flexable and not get owned by AMG like that.
Anyway Matt said they might fix it in vista. But personally if I dont see XML support in there I am gonna be pretty disappointed.

Re: DVD Cover Grabber

I dont know if anyone is really very interested in my ramblings but for thos that are. I have been hassling Matt Goyer (MS MCE Product group) about the metadata stuff.

Heres a grab from a comment on his website:

"The only metadata that we get from AMG that we don’t (and can’t) cache is the synopsis. We’ll try and take the bug fix so that if someone does provide a synopsis that we then display it but right now we have higher priority bugs to fix.

Vista does not have better DVD XML handling. It is unchanged from MCE 2005. And yes, we do have an agreement with AMG and will continue to use their metadata for movies for Vista."

So yeah we cant have synopsis but the rest is ok. So I will continue to get the metadata working but it just wont work with the synopsis unfortunately.

Thumbs up Re: DVD Cover Grabber

Hey, my cents worth.....

You can't change the impossible, but you can do the best with what you have.

So far you have done a sterling job and don't worry about things that you have no control over. You just end up losing your hair

Keep up the good work.

Cheers

Re: DVD Cover Grabber

Hi,

I have about 600 movies - is there any way to automate this so that for any folder that >doesn't< already have a folder.jpg, it will stick the first one it finds in there?

Also, I really don't want extra files/directories in there, despite how useful it is to technical people. I really just want the cover!

Thanks

Re: DVD Cover Grabber

this is very cool. have pictures now for most of my daughters movies so she can navigate with ease

I notice it seems to have problems with titles with (...) eg The Incredibles (Disc1)... throws an error. I could rename the folders but wondered if there was an easy work-around in the code...

Would be neat to have an option to re-search just for a specific title/search criteria, or filter so it only shows movies that don't yet have an image but that's all adding bloat...

Re: DVD Cover Grabber

Hey there. Yeah I would like to add that feature. I have put dev on hold because someone else is working on something VERY similar and I thought it was going to be released soon. But... I havent seen it as yet.

So I am going to start recoding it from the ground up. At the moment its a little inefficient as it downloads all this xml files etc. I am going to include a backgroundworker and use the mysettings stuff in .net 2.0 so its quicker.
Just need to get some time.

Anyway I will keep you posted.

Re: DVD Cover Grabber

hey dir,

I missed your post. The new version is doing away with the xml and folders so that may appeal to you. I will also try and add a feature to exclude folders that do not have teh folder.jpg file.

Re: DVD Cover Grabber

Hey guys,

The new version is pretty much almost done. It includes a search feature if results arent what your after and it can also only show folders that require an image through the options. Also it doesnt create any folders or files (except for the folder.jpg) on your drive now.

Heres a pic:

I will upload it soon.

Re: DVD Cover Grabber

I just download the software and it's really good. I had one small problem I hope you can help me with. I have the first Season of Deadwood and I have the folder structure setup like this
C:myDVD\Deadwood-Season One\Disc1
C:myDVD\Deadwood-Season One\Disc2
an so for. When I opened the program instead of it displaying Deadwood it just displayed season. not season one just the single word season. Not sure why, i was hoping youwould be able to help me with that. I was able to use the search feature and get the right image so that worked great.

Thanks for the program.

Re: DVD Cover Grabber

Ah yeah I know what that is. I will work on that shortly.

Basically I have to use a regular expression to trim the name from the directory and I assume the regex isnt quite right.

Im glad you like it. I really appreciate the feedback.
