Re: DVD Cover Grabber

Euan,

Just downloaded a copy. Nice quick solution for adding covers to folders, would work with CD's too. Excellent work. Great with the My DVD fix, be good if it could see all movie types. Nice n quick to load.

Got it going found a few issues:

1. The APP leaves a dvcovergrabber directory under each movie and downloads each available matching image - once I hit select the image I want all the remaining unwanted files and directories deleted - is this possible, no need to have unwanted data in folders

2. I keep crashing the APP on a few different folders - see attached, maybe the way i set out the folder structure? This is one of the error messages I got.

3. If you come across a movie it can't find or select properly, it gives you a chance to retype a match, what if the APP selects a near match but the wrong one, how do you ask for a retype??

Later,

Nudge

Re: DVD Cover Grabber

Nudge: Thanks for the excellent feedback! I really appreciate it!

I keep all the data so that if someone decides to change the folder image they dont have to download the data again. But I can create an option to remove that folder on completion. I will get on to that shortly.

As for the crashes. Could you post the folder it is crashing on? Just something like C:\My DVDs\Blair Witch for example. I will create the folder here and test it. If there are a few post them and I will check it out. It will all most likely be related.

Ah yeah the retype feature isnt quite working just yet. Its still in a testing phase so let me know how its performing and if its not working. I might even include a research button to make it easier.

Yes it could work with CD's but that requires a different Amazon search feature (ie CD instead of DVD in the search string). But I could add that in to the options in the future if there is interest?

Thanks heaps for your feedback. Its really helpful.

Regards,
Euan

Re: DVD Cover Grabber

getafix: It will work on any machine that can install the .net framework (ver 2.0) which I think is Windows 2000 and above unfortunately.

But it can run across network shares as thats the way I do it at home.

I used to download all the covers manually and I got very tired of it. So I made this app. I hope it makes it easier?

Re: DVD Cover Grabber

I have uploaded a new version that will now not show hidden folders.

This will also help with a bug because it was listen hidden folders yet if you clicked the title it would not find the folder. Thanks nac.

Re: DVD Cover Grabber

Hi Euan

Great app.

I tried it at home last night. It seemed to lock up my machine, but it was searching Amazon. I was able to continue working on other suff.

Can't wait to see if you can get the metadata thing sorted out . As I said I tried Matts DVD profiler and "his dvd settings", but I couln't get it to work.

This one works great - just the metadata.

Cheers
G

Re: DVD Cover Grabber

nac: Yeah it seems the gotdotnet website has gone mad again... sorry about that. Hopefully it will come good shortly.

getafix: Thats one of my action items I need to attend to. It seems to pause waiting for the amazon XML file to be created and downloaded and freeze the app. I want to show an hour glass or progress bar but I dont know how to just yet.
Anyway, as long as you know it comes good shortly.

I have been working on the metadata stuff. Its coming along. There is a lot of data from Amazon to sort though but there is some cool stuff too. Like Amazon editorial reviews that I can include and all the other obvious stuff. Unfortunately it requires multiple queries of the XML and fair amount of sorting. But... I will get there eventually.

Re: DVD Cover Grabber

In true Australian terminology (I'm South African) "Go you good thing"

Thanks for the app, it works great and like all things, it takes time to perfect.
I will keep a keen eye on this thread to see the developments.

Cheers
G

Re: DVD Cover Grabber

Well I have made some pretty big advancements with the DVD meta-data. I have pretty much got the app now creating the full metadata file in XML ready for the cache folder. But there are a few elements in the XML that is missing so I am waiting for Matt Goyer from Microsoft to get back to me.
Basically there is no element for review which I quite like. So once I know how I can attach a review to the metadata its almost away (Oh also I cant seem to find Actors in the amazon respond XML).

After that I just need to figure out where the default location for the XML cache (for all users) is and its done. Which will almost bring it to the first complete version.

Although with this realisation... The interface needs to be redone because the code has changed so much with the new handling of the XML.

Ah well...

Re: DVD Cover Grabber

Hold the phone... I just found out what the review element is. Its actually called synopsis and its under the title element at the end.

So it pretty much looks like the XML metadata is wrapped up. The only thing it is missing is main actors ... ah well. I might leave that for a little while.

Well I should have this new code integrated tonight and ready for testing this evening.

Re: DVD Cover Grabber

Euan,

are you having trouble with creating/extracting the CRC64 DVD id from the disc? Or are you creating your own?

I may have some answers.

PM me.

Re: DVD Cover Grabber

nac: hey dude... it seems there is a weird file thrown in there called B000BW1574.01-A2R8HH2NX5KSRH._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg which is a long file name and a weird one that doesnt look like it relates to the movie stealth.
I will make a fix for it now.
But in the new version stuff like this wont even happen any more. The new version is looking pretty cool.

mattyg: I PM'ed you but just for the reference of everyone else I am creating my own dvdid's from the amazon ASIN number.

*** The fixed Stealth friendly version has been uploaded

**** Oh a new feature snuck in the new version unexpectedly (*cough* bad version control *cough*). The app will now remember the folder and the DVD you were last looking at and load it apon loading.
