Video Redo.... quality product, easy to use and fast. (worth every cent) output as mpeg2 and then SD rips go through "Crunchie" (thanks Arkay) and HD rips go through "Staxrip" as x264's "High Quality slower". Regards, Gunner22.
I do it manually, takes 15 minutes in videoredo. It would be great if these things were fool proof but they arent. Plus netorks are getting smarter and making ads widescreen (to get past screen resolution etc). I'd much rather DIY quickly myself, set up 3/4 projects with all rips done and batch convert in videoredo
I know of VideoRedo. I'm looking for an automated solution. My MCE box is connected to the TV, no keyboard, mouse etc. I don't want to have to Terminal Server in and edit the files. We use MCE as a VCR replacement, I don't crunch/backup/archive my shows.
I just like the 'magic' of add skipping on the fly when watching a recording, that ComSkip seems to do well.
I'm trying to find some help in tweaking it a bit further.
Fair enough. Have you tried there forums? Not trying to fob you off but most users here either crunch, edit on another PC or use DCUT from within mce 2005 (and I think there is a vista replacment now) to take care of commercial removal.
I have got to say that if you aren't archiving then what is the big deal? Just hit skip forward a few times and the ads are gone. It's really not worth all the effort when the results are far from perfect.

yeah.. but I really love the magic of no adds.. when it works.. its amazing. So, just trying to get it as good as I can at the moment.
So.. as I said... i'm opening suggestions for ComSkip and/or ShowAnalyzer.
I don't use comskip, but I do use Showanalyser which I find more accurate.
I haven't played around with it much, just use the default settings, and it's pretty good. On the SD channels I can't recall it missing a commercial yet. And it hasn't added any skips in that weren't a commercial.
It's also easy to go back to a point if it makes a mistake, but I haven't had to as yet on any SD channels.
HD channels in my area are a different story though as they often don't go to commercials, they just go straight into the HD loop which I find rather frustrating. I haven't fiddled with the settings to adjust the HD stuff yet. On the odd occasion that they run commercials on HD it finds them fine.
I think it's a perfectly adequate solution to skipping channels if you don't want to sit and edit them yourself through VideoRedo. I'd really only use VideoRedo if I was planning on archiving stuff (which I don't).
There is a plugin for MCE2005 that does it via the 10' interface though, which I haven't tried as I use Vista, and there is a new Vista one which will definitely give you more control once it's developed further (it's in beta at the moment and has some issues).
I have found automated ad deletion to be like OCR and Voice Recognition - they are all amazing and about 95% accurate, but by the time you go back to fix the other 5%, you might as well have done the whole thing manually in the first place. I agree Video Redo is excellent for the job.
