MCE password protect

Does anyone know of a plugin that will allow me to lock the computer to the media center app and require a password to gain access to the normal windows side of things. im also looking for something that will allow me to edit the media center menu. i basicly want to turn it into a shell that will only allow access to "my music", "my videos, tv etc.

Thanks

Re: MCE password protect

mccdave,

Not aware of any such app. Have you tried running your MCE as Windows user (not administrator) and setting MCE to autostart and always be on top? Its pretty hard for another user in the house to stuff things up from there.

I think what your looking for is the Group Policy editor. (Start -> Run -> gpedit.msc)
You can create an account for Media Center only with auto logon then edit the group policy for this ID so it only has access to Media Center, restricting access or removing all other program icons, start menu etc.... This is good stuff. (google: XP group policy for more info)

Just make sure that you have at least an Admin account with a secure password which you can use for maintenance.
Have fun....
