Burn software for avi/mp3 archiving - but problem free!

Hi,

I'm looking for CD/DVD burning software that can be utilised on a dedicated HTPC machine - outside of the MCE interface is fine, to assist in the archiving of avi's and MP3's to dvd/cd.

I plan to keep digital media until its watched or I'm 'over it' then I will archive it to DVD/CD.

I've always used Nero - currently using Nero 6 Reloaded on my main PC BUT I hear that if put on a HTPC it has a tendency to stuff up the FFD/RWD functions and many other things.

So I am just wondering if anyone can recommend a burning solution that is HTPC friendly - free or pay is fine, as I will trial first.

thanks in advance for your suggestions,

Nikko

Re: Burn software for avi/mp3 archiving - but problem free!

No-one?

Surely people are using some kind of burning software on their HTPC's? I can't imagine that many would just use Windows inbuilt solution - which to be honest I've never even used as I've always been a Nero user.

HOWEVER, people say Nero stuffs up MCE controls so is a definite no go.

So whats everyone using? Or anyone for that matter?

Just needs to be used in the desktop environment every few months for archiving of material thats no longer needed......however it can't stuff up the MCE zone.

Cheers for any suggestions......or just feedback on what you're doing.

Thanks, nikko

Re: Burn software for avi/mp3 archiving - but problem free!

I use the built-in interface if i need to transfer off anything direct to DVD, if one of my other PC`s isnt on. Its not so bad, and does what I want fairly easily TBH.
If my main PC is on, it has a mapped drive to the share and I burn over the network (1Gb) which never gives me any grief.
If you want something outside MCE, then again, just use the inbuild Windows 'write to CD/DVD' and use it that way.
Dont see any reason to add additional software to my MCE machine, as it keeps it nice and stable.

Hope it helps.

I've been using Nero on my XP MCE machine - and I've noticed no problems in MCE at all (FF/REW work perfectly - at least in recorded TV shows & DVDs).

Yep, FF/RWD functions work fine with Nero 6 and 7.

You could use the XP burning software or even try something else like CDBurnerXP Pro which is free and doesn't conflict with MCE in any way.

Ah gee....well in that case it makes me wonder why these folks were flapping on about Nero causing probs then. Will give a couple a try, cheers, Nikko

PS I'm giving DeepBurner a go - as I think thats the best of the freebie burn suites.
