editing with dcut results in wrong duration of programme?

I just tried dcut on a dvrms file and removed about 20 minutes of commercials from a 1:30 hour program without compressing the file.

When watching the file, MCE still displays the file duration of the original file, when fast forwarding I can see the original duration of the file in the progress bar, with the actual duration highlighted.

Is this normal? I'm afraid that this might be a problem when trying to burn files because MCE will think it won't fit on a DVD?

Yep, That's normal. And no, it won't affect burning to dvd . Sonic encoders only encode the video that is actually there.

Do the Sonic encoders actually work on our digital recordings in Aus these days? I remember they were very slow/unsuccessful in the early days but haven't heard anything recently.

They work fine so long as you have all the mce updates from windows updates. There are still some issues with aspect ratios when burning from HD content, but work fine with SD. They still can be a little slow...
