Programing the EPG from another pc over the net

I have been looking through the forums but haven't been able to find anything on using another pc over the internet to program your mce box's EPG.I have tried using remote desktop but it shuts down the MCE program when you log into it.
I want to be able to from work etc via the net program the EPG to record shows for that night if i can't make it home.
Any ideas would be appriciated.

No worries, be sure to let us know how you go, as I don't think many people use it.

Cheers

Re: Programing the EPG from another pc over the net

I dont know what webguide is.

But i simply remote desktop onto my MCE machine (concurrent session) and select what I want to record. There is a thread on here about common registry hacks which has info on how to get the concurrent logons working with MCE.

I haev enabled my router to allow for remote desktop and so far its sweet.

Re: Programing the EPG from another pc over the net

Webguide is a web based EPG. Because it's web based you have the luxury of connecting to it from anywhere with a web browser, much better than having to rely on an RDP client being available.

Would you be able to point me in the direction of some advice on getting Webguide working? Even better could you make a guide of the steps you took?

I'm currently getting an ASP.Net error after i log in.

Code:

Re: Programing the EPG from another pc over the net

Just as another option you could always try Webscheduler, I use it for all my recording, never use MCE.

It has an EPG and built in Web interface...

Re: Programing the EPG from another pc over the net

The error you are recieving is due to the fact that ASP.NET doesn't have launch and activation permissions set on your machine. Here's what you do

1. Control Panel -> Admin Tools -> Component Services
2. On the tree drill down to My Computer under Component Services
3. Select and view properties
4. Select COM Security Tab
5. Click EDIT DEFAULTS button in "Launch and Activation Permissions" Group
6. If ASP.NET is in the groups or users box, then make sure you allow all permissions.
7. If ASP.NET is not in the list, click Add enter "ASPNET" (no quote's or full stop, one word)
8. Click Check Name, Click OK, allow all permissions.

Hope that helps.
