Guide works, channels don't, and vice-versa

I hope someone can help me with this. I followed the instructions at http://minnie.tuhs.org/twiki/bin/view/TVGuide/MCE and successfully installed BladeRunner and the OzTivo grabber. I edited my ChannelInfo.xml file so it looked like this:

<?xml version="1.0" standalone="yes"?>
<NewDataSet>
<Channel>
<name>ABC</name>
<channelID>ABC-Qld</channelID>
<virtualchannel>2</virtualchannel>
</Channel>
<Channel>
<name>SBS</name>
<channelID>SBS-Qld</channelID>
<virtualchannel>5</virtualchannel>
</Channel>
<Channel>
<name>Seven</name>
<channelID>Seven-Qld</channelID>
<virtualchannel>7</virtualchannel>
</Channel>
<Channel>
<name>Nine</name>
<channelID>WIN-Qld</channelID>
<virtualchannel>9</virtualchannel>
</Channel>
<Channel>
<name>Ten</name>
<channelID>Ten-Qld</channelID>
<virtualchannel>10</virtualchannel>
</Channel>
</NewDataSet>

I then ran Bladerunner and it generated a guide.bin file. Then the problems began. I set up the guide in MCE and it worked fine for ABC, but the other 4 channels were not tuned properly (the EPG info was showing up, but the screen was just static). So I ran the tuning setup again and it tuned in the 5 channels I get in my area (listing them as Unknown etc). Then I set up the guide again and it lost all those channels and set up its own 5 channels (named ABC, SBS, Seven, etc) but again only ABC worked. Is the guide automatically overriding my frequencies? I live in Qld, postcode 4380, and we get regional television channels. Perhaps it is overriding them with Brisbane frequencies, and the ABC one still works because it is the same frequency all over Qld? I have been going around in circles for an hour trying to get it to work with no success. Can someone walk me through exactly what needs to be done in MCE to get the guide AND the channel frequencies working at the same time? I have read the forums for hours too, and the most promising thing I saw was something about "Add Listings to Channel" but I have no such option, and my head is starting to hurt...

Re: Guide works, channels don't, and vice-versa

Use bladrunner in conjuction with Freexmltv (two top members here created ach respectively so there is active support).

These programs in conjuction will create there own Channelinfo file so youwont need to worry about that and can even create HD channel info if you ask nice

OK, I have uninstalled BladeRunner and the OzTivo grabber, and reinstalled BladeRunner and installed FreeXMLTV. I followed the instructions to the letter to setup FreeXMLTV (I chose regional Qld and it appeared to download all the TV show data and create a guide.bin file). I then went into MCE and followed the directions from http://www.xpmediacentre.com.au/brp/partb.html and everything is fine up until the very last thing:

You will then be prompted to "Scan For Services" you MUST complete this step. Now all that is left to do is the usual "Edit Channels", "Change Channel Order" and "Add Listings To Channel".

When I scan for services I get no channels. Zero.

If I go back into the setup and say I don't want to use the program guide at all and then scan for services, I get all 5 channels no problems (named Unknown etc). But as soon as I tell it I want to use the program guide and then rescan for channels, I get nothing. This is turning out to be a very long day... any suggestions?

Re: Guide works, channels don't, and vice-versa

Have you set Freexmltv epg.bat to create a CHANNELINFO file for you (edit epg.bat in notepad and add exactly what I wrote above CHANNELINFO with a space in between entries)

You then need to put the created file in the Quickguide folder. I then MCE and scan channels go then Freexmltv again just to process everything then backl into MCE, download latest listings add info to channels and it should be there

My EPG.bat looks like this:

FreeXMLTV REGION=RQL VERBOSE SUBSTITUTE
C:\WINDOWS\ehome\BladeRunnerPro\BladeRunner

There is a ChannelInfo.xml file in the Quickguide directory that has this in it (which was created when I installed FreeXMLTV and chose my region and renamed my channels):

<?xml version="1.0" standalone="yes"?>

Not sure what you mean. Can you tell me exactly what to add to the above file(s)?

Are my files correct? If so, scanning for channels in MCE doesn't find any channels to begin with if I choose to enable the guide...

Re: Guide works, channels don't, and vice-versa

Hmm there is a new installer which already does the CHANNELINFO so I am wrong on that front.

Yours seems to be a unique problem though as when you choose to use the guide you can't tune any channels yes or no?

It just doesn't detect any channels at all when I enable the guide (gets to 100% with no channels found), but I can detect all the channels if I don't enable it (but obviously then I don't get the EPG showing).

Two problems with that.

1. Why pay $130 per year for something that is available for free?
2. When I went to the IceTV website, there is no regional Queensland guide.

Talking Re: Guide works, channels don't, and vice-versa

Oh Yeah and the other reason is......

IT JUST WORKS!

You install it and it does all the rest for you.

Matt.
