Unhappy vista reboot for xbox to connect

Ive had this problem ever since i installed vista.
The xbox360 will not connect to the vista media center until the vista box has been rebooted.
I cant understand what happens. one minute it connects ok but later on it wont, until vista is rebooted.
Has anyone heard of this problem before?

thanks

Re: vista reboot for xbox to connect

Are you using Vista Ultimate, if not have you installed any DVD players which may include their own MPEG2 codecs etc?
Vista MC under Vista Ultimate does not require any extra codecs (probably with the exception of FFDshow for DivX but you can't use that from your 360 anyway).
I never reboot my Vista install, it sits in standby or hybernate most of the time and only wakes up when I hit the media center button on my 360 (turned on the my ethernet card's Wake On Lan in Device manager). I've also used XP MCE2005 with XB360 and I did have this problem a few times after I had installed FFDshow with all codecs enabled (that took a reinstall to get it back working properly).

Re: vista reboot for xbox to connect

I am currently having an issue with my three (3) Xbox 360 Extenders where they freeze and I need to reboot the main media centre before they will work again.

The issue appears to be with the Broadcom Network adaptor drivers. Until I replace the mainboard in the coming weeks, I disabled QOS for the network adaptor at the request of Microsoft Support and it appears to have fixed the problem. Might be worth a try.

Here is the registry details to disable QOS

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Media Foundation\Network]
"UseQos"=dword:00000000

Cheers
Andrew
