I'm not sure what revision the XBOX360 is and whether it's HDMI capable.
Hi Innie808
How did you find out the price? The online catalogue doesn't seem to show prices for me.
Cheers

E3 is just a few weeks away, and there are very strong rumours that a price cut will be announced for the coming holiday season. Mind though that these are only rumours and may not even bring it down to the price that you mention.
I bought an arcade to use an extender for the bedroom. I already had an 360 in the kids room and the noise was barely noticable. However, in the bedroom it is like a jet engine. I have bought a dma2100 for the bedroom and moved the other 360 to the games room.
The 360 does allow you to move to a non VMC world, whereas the dma2100 will lock you in.
Even if it is at A$278 it's a much better price than the rumoured US$299 in the article for the Pro unit (Who knows how Microsoft will convert US$299 to Aust dollars (hint: it won't be at the current exchange rate!) - Edit - further details on price comparisons in this thread
At A$278 for a XBOX 360 Arcade which is HDMI and the updated 65nm processor with improved cooling on the motherboard and a quieter DVD drive this will make a great media extender

Reason: Corrected processor details - 45nm is slated for late 2008
The US $299 is the premium Xbox360 that comes with the 20gig HDD. The Arcade doesn't come with the hdd which is why it's cheaper. It's still better value for money than a DMA2100 or DMA2200. Saying that, an XBOX is probably not suitable for certain environments where as the DMA's are.
Anyway, If anyone gets there hands on one of these from BIGW, can they confirm the revision of the XBOX360. Are they the new 65nm "JASPER"? I don't think the "Valhalla's" are in production.
Jasper has 65nm CPU
Valhalla has 65nm CPU and 65nm GPU
I'm pretty sure there's no 45nm process for xbox360.

Jasper would not be out just yet. I believe that I have the falcon, which is quiet enough. I just wish they would do something about the noise of the dvd drive.
Microsoft cuts Xbox console prices

July 2, 2008
The Xbox 360 is now the cheapest non-handheld games console on the market after Microsoft slashed the price of the entry level Arcade model to $349.
Jeremy Hinton, Xbox group product marketing manager, said the company was passing on savings from recent currency fluctuations and lower manufacturing costs.
But retailer EBGames suggested the cuts may be due to flagging sales of the Xbox 360.
"Wii is so far in front, then PlayStation 3 is a clear second with Xbox coming in at third," said EBGame merchandising director Shane Stockwell.
The move means the Nintendo Wii, which was previously on par with the Xbox 360 at $399, loses its title of budget console king.
It also makes Sony's Playstation 3, priced at $699.95, an even harder sell for budget-conscious buyers. But Stockwell said, even at that price, EBGames was having difficulty keeping the console in stock.
"$699 is no barrier to sales for PlayStation 3," he said.
Some retailers, such as Big W, have slashed prices even further than Microsoft's official adjustment, selling the Xbox 360 Arcade for $279 for a limited time.
The mid-range Xbox 360 console, which adds a 20GB hard drive, headset and high definition cables, now sells for $499. Before the cuts it was $579.
The high-end black Xbox 360 Elite, which adds a 120GB hard drive, HDMI cables and a free 30-day Xbox Live Gold membership, was slashed from $729 to $649.
Sony and Nintendo refused to comment on the Microsoft price cuts.

Another take on the same interview mentions console numbers sold. I too have heard from retailers that xbox sales were sluggish and that price cuts had to come. Maybe this cut is independent from the E3 rumours, which also mention higher capacity hard drives.
I am surprised to hear that xbox sales numbers are that close to the wii:
Wii - 456,000
Xbox 360 - 410,000
PS3 - 285,000
The article is not clear on where these numbers come from though.

Can someone confirm/further corroborate the newer 360s having quieter dvd drivers for game playing purposes? Earlier ones are enough to drive you crazy, particluarly when playing halo 3!
Further I take it the Xbox 360 Arcade allows you to add a HD, media remote + hd cabling even though they don't come with pack?
