XBOX & Vista media centre setup issue

HI all

I've just build myself a new Vista media box last weekend, Media centre is up and running with the new Hauppauge HVR-2200 which is great. I have a Xbox 360 in our theare which I had working as an extender on our old 2005 MCE. My issue is now trying to setup the new VMC on the xbox once i enter in the 8-digit passkey it gets to the point of looking for the extender then fail as its unable to find it. So far here is what I have done:

* I have removed all relations to the old MCE box which is off anyway
* Gone through the inital setup on the xbox again
* Ensured both Xbox and Vista is up to date
* Tried with firewall off & ensured appropriate box is ticked to allow media connections
* Both comptuers are connected via ethernet and correct IP addres have been assigned

The strange thing is that under network computers on vista I am able to see the XBOX and i tried the setup in WMP 11 which worked but then i went to browe media files on the xbox i was unable to connect.

Any help would be great i've wasted way to much time trying to get this to work

There was a long time ago with a Netcomm NB9W not connecting that was solved by using the following steps.

Im using a linksys router. but that should have no effect as all the internal traffic on my network wont be passing through the router.

No, I had the same problems with my DLink, so I'm guessing it's not the Router.

Did you run the network test through the XBox, and does it pick up the VMC

I have run the network test which runs through connectivity of 3 or 4 things and when it gets to i think the "media box" test it comes up as faited.

I think i might have to try a fresh install of vista on a spare hdd i have and see what happens. I have tired just about everything else

Re: XBOX & Vista media centre setup issue

Mine did the same thing...I'm not in front of my xbox at the moment (at work)...so just running off memory.

There is no need to reinstall Vista.

Make sure you sharing is on...

Hang on I'll get back to you soon...

Re: XBOX & Vista media centre setup issue

Thanks for the reply

Hmm i've followed those setup instructions to a tee and still no luck , just sits there spinning on "searching for extender" even though i can see it under network computers. But when i got to network and sharing centre and turn on media sharing i am able to turn it on and allow the xbox to share, but when i attempt to view video's un the xbox under the media tab it cant fine the VMC.

Re: XBOX & Vista media centre setup issue

You also need to make sure you've done this...

Although It's for XP it still applies in Vista, ie the Media Player 11 sharing

Try that

Re: XBOX & Vista media centre setup issue

Just installed Vista on a spare drive i had. Went straight into VMC and connected straight away. So either there is something corrupt on the main vista install, or one of the drivers or applications that i have installed is affecting the way Vista is connecting to the XBOX.
