Network has a router, connected to central 10/100/1000 switch in roof. The Xbox connects to a 10/100 switch (TP Link 8 port) that connects to the central switch. The VMC (10/100/1000 on board) connects to another 10/100/1000 switch (TP Link 5 port) that also connects to the central switch.
So, for the xbox to access the internet, it passes thru 2 switches and the router. Does this great and can connect to Live.
To connect to the VMC, it goes thru 3 switches. It wont connect to the VMC. Either dont see each other.
If I disconnect from main network, and run cable from switch near xbox direct to VMC, the xbox is detected, set up, and extends.
So, thru 1 switch only, works great. Thru more than 1 switch, no go.
HELP!!!!

Reason: correction to switches
Are the switches either Repotec, Wiretek, or one of the other cheapies?
OK, the one that Xbox 360 plugs into is a TP Link 8-port (woops, only 10/100)
Not sure of central, as is in roof (but is 8 port gig)
Switch near media center is also TP Link (5-port 10/100/1000)
Media Center has gig lan onboard.
Will ammend original post with details.
So, thro 10/100 switch only, works great.
Is there a known problem on gig lan??

Reason: Fat fingers cant spell ... lol
ok, after more checking, seems like my 360 dont like gig switches
As soon as I went thru the TP Link 10/100, VMC saw the 360 and asked if I wanted to set it up.
VMC <--> TP Link 100/1000 <--> Central 100/1000 <--> TP Link 10/100 <--> 360 = no go
VMC <--> TP Link 100/1000 <--> TP Link 10/100 <--> 360 = no go
VMC <--> TP Link 100/1000 <--> 360 = no go
VMC <--> TP Link 10/100 <--> 360 = OK
Now, I gather this aint normal. There would have to be plenty of people using gig switches in their network.
So, is there a patch for the 360? is it a faulty NIC in it?
Very strange will connect to Live thru gig, but not the VMC computer.
Any ideas guys???
There a quite a few cheapie gig switches that will not pass some protocols, the reason I asked about the brand is that I had an 8 port gig switch that would allow me to use the PS3 to connect to the net but would not work with my meadia server, I went back to the supplier and tried a new unit and it did work. Having a good relationship with the supplier I opened the old and new units up and found totally different boad revensions and componenets and reported back to the supplier who contacted the manufacturer and found that yes the older versions did in deed block or were incapable of passing some protocols.
The manufacturer sells the units to many of the cheapie suppliers as quite a few different brands, in fact almost all of them.

There is the problem, even the cheapies work now...... so long as the later revision, how can you tell.....you can't untill you try! Odds are though that current stock will be the later revisions.
