Problems with additional folder locations on extender

I have been using my XBox 360 as an extender for several weeks with no problem.... until today. I'm not sure if this was happening previously, but has become quite annoying:

On the VMC Machine, when I load MC, everything looks great. Music under music, pictures under pictures, and video under videos. However, on the XBOX extender, some additional folders are showing up under pictures, which are not showing up on the VMC. Namely, these are: MUSIC and VIDEO (in addition to the pictures folder).

When I check the monitored folders (directly from the XBOX), it shows 6 folders:

\users\my name\music
\users\my name\pictures
\users\my name\videos
\users\mcx1\music
\users\mcx1\pictures
\users\mcx1\videos

The XBOX also shows (in pictures AND videos) all the drives associated with the memory card reader on the VMC (this is not such an issue, but I would still like to know how to override it).

To troubleshoot, I have disconnected the XBOX, deleted MCX1, reconnected etc.. twice. Same issue. I am wondering if I should stop the XBOX monitoring some of the above folders, but not sure which ones (last time I did that, I couldn't find them again to add).

Any thoughts?

Also, is there a thread that people would recommend on the best way to have other Vista Machines in the household feed data off the 1 main VMC? Monitoring folders in Media Player seems to work ok for Music, but not great for other things.

I've encountered the same problems on the Xbox360 extender ever since applying Vista SP1.

I've had no luck in tracking down the issue. Has anyone else has any success?

Re: Problems with additional folder locations on extender

There are a number of old threads talking about these issues dating back towards the original relaese of Vista. They are easily found with a search.

The fix that I am still using is to stop watching any folder that does not have stuff in it you want displayed. I have all music and pictures in the public folders. Video is on a dedicated hard drive, but I have shortcuts to the folders that I want to display under video in the public video folder. From memory to get a neat set up you need to delete entire library (not the files themselves in WMP and start again. I forget all the intricacies of what is necessary for the VMC machine and what effects the XBox, and they seem to be somewhat interrelated.
