Folders don't appear. Videos don't play.

Ok, so, on my PC - I see these folders (under the video library section), but through media centre extender - I don't. I see some other ones that are there on my PC, but none of the ones that actually contain the videos.
I have ffdshow installed if that helps.
Oh, and that's the other thing, what should I install so that my videos actually play through the extender? Because when I could see the video folders on it, none of the videos played (even the ones with thumbnails).
Thanks all,
Nicko.

Re: Folders don't appear. Videos don't play.

Hmmm. Well this is interesting, I just removed the video folders from the library setup, then added them again (less a couple that I didn't want anymore) - and it said that it was 'adding 0 files'. I went back to the video library and behold, everything was there as it was before, even the folders I got rid of. And for some of the videos, it tells me that they aren't there, that it can't find them. Even though they are there.

Re: Folders don't appear. Videos don't play.

Ok, after a bit of searching, a majority of the files that it reckons it can't find are MPEG4s. What do I need to play this (and what about DivX files too)? And my 360 still doesn't get any of the videos, and the folders that I told it not to include are still there. It's probably worth noting that everything else (music, photos and tv) is fine. Both on the 360 and on PC. Also, I've somehow ended up with the picture and music folders in the video library?
Would it be easier just to start over, clean out Media Centre? How do you do that?
Thanks again.

Re: Folders don't appear. Videos don't play.

Hi Nicko,

re your MPEG files.

Xbox will not play mpeg4 or divx files natively through the media centre interface. You have a couple of options.

1. Use Transcode 360. It works well and I think its available in the downloads section

2. Use the media blade on the 360. You will need to set up a way to serve up the files using a Universal plug and play server like Tversity - or you can use media player 11 on your other PC if you have it.

Hope that helps.

David

Thanks davidb!
I'll try Transcode 360 in just a sec, as for the using the media blade - I did use that before I got Vista, so it should be good.
Thanks again.
