Streaming xvid from Vista MCE hangs 360 - ideas?

I have a Vista pc running Vista Ultimate, updated with all the latest and greatest from windowsupdate. I also have a 360 with the fall update, and recently was prompted to download the codec (?) patch while signed into Live.

I finally got motivated to try streaming to my 360, and have run into a roadblock. Whenever I try to play an xvid file from within Media Center on the 360, the 360 hangs, and I have to shut it off manually. I am able to stream the same file, from the same location, via WMP 11 and the Media\Video link just fine. WMV's stream fine via Media Center.

Any ideas what I might be dealing with?

Recap
- WMV streams fine via MCE
- xvid locks up the 360 via MCE
- The same xvid file streams fine via WMP 11 and the Video option (not MCE)
- The xvid plays fine locally on the Vista machine via MCE

The MCX interface of the 360 doesn't allow playback of divx or xvid files. They enabled that functionality for the dashboard only.

yeah, unfortunately the people who work out licensing for the Divx Codec considered that the dashboard interface and the media centre interface on the 360 were two separate players.
so Microsoft went for the majority of use with the dash board option.

hopefully they add divx to the media centre interface in the future.

Until then its Transcaode360 or some other software to convert Divx on the fly in MCE360

Re: Streaming xvid from Vista MCE hangs 360 - ideas?

I dunno if this is the case for others

but for me

using MCX to navigate my folders is very very slow, i only have 100mbit network.
when i goto say TV SHOWS
then into my FAVORITE SHOW
then press info and then more and then start transcoding

I may aswell have exited to the dash went through that way in half the time with just as many options during playback.
The only loss is the thumbnails... big woooop
