Birthday Pressie I can't have... YET!

I'm about to ask a stupid question.... so stupid that I have scoured all the threads and can't find any other question like it... asked or answered...

I'm new to the whole Xbox360 phenomenon so go easy as I have the training wheels on big time...

I bought my birthday present last week... and Xbox360 premium with the "right" batch number and the "falcon" release hardware. So far so good . Unfortunately for me, my birthday isn't for a couple of weeks so the misses confiscated it and said I can play with it then...

So not being able to play with it has led me to ask this question.... is the HDMI connector the same as a normal HDMI connector...?? The guy at HN said I need "the special Microsoft cable" to make it work as it is their own connector... Bulls@#t radar alert! He wasn't too happy when I passed on his offer...

In short, I blame my misses for this stupid question as if I was allowed to play with my latest purchase, I wouldn't have had to ask this question..... or at least that's my excuse

(Mental note: Remove all evidence of this out of Explorer history as otherwise I may not get a pressie at all! )

You used to have to buy a HDMI adapter cable with the old boxes.
but with the new ones having a port directly on it, a normal cable should work.

Re: Birthday Pressie I can't have... YET!

Just confirming this for you. You can use any old HDMI cable from the 360 which will carry the video and audio. However if like a lot of us you have a receiver that accepts the optical audio you will need to modify the original as you cannot fit the hdmi and standard cable in at the same time (need standard cable for optical out)

More details can be found here

Hope that helps
