Xbox Arcade as an extender

I'm thinking on getting the xbox arcade for the upstair living to use it as an extender and to use it to play the occasional arcade games.

Since the "arcade" version doesn't have the hard drive, but only the 256 MB memory card, how slow is it in loading the media center extender part as compare to the pro / elite version (with hard drive) - or will it actually load it into the memory card?

Thanks....

Re: Xbox Arcade as an extender

The load time is same as hard drive version, the only benefit for the hard drive apart from storing a large amount of game save and demo downloads and arcade games is that you can play xbox original games.

All the dashoard and mce is stored on the internal xbox memory. You will need a hard drive if you plan on having a large amount of arcade games as 256 will only get you so far.

I use a arcade as an mce extender it works great can even watch my divx through the dashboard thanks to the fall udpate

Hey Arturo.

Could you qualify the above statement? Are you saying that the 360 CAN now playback xvix/divx, natively, without the need for transcode etc??

I have two original xboxes, both running xbmc, mainly for divx/xvid avi playback...if the 360 can now do it then they're no longer required - which will please the missus.

Justin.

Re: Xbox Arcade as an extender

You can play divx/xvid files on the 360 now via the dashboard(video blade) , but not through the media center interface.

I personally set my 360 to boot to the dashboard automatically when switched on.
You can still use the Media center interface to view your dvr-ms files like recorded TV.
or to use the tuners in your main media center.

I still keep my original xbox around, runing XBMC, although 360 supports divx xvid they dont support all formats especially if you have a large collection youll find a very small amount dont work or dont run smoothly.

These is where XBMC kicks ass and plays everything, I have even got one hidden in the bathroom for streaming MCE recorded tv as well as xvid/divx andmusic through smb support, plays on a 15" lcd wall mounted.

Theres many reasons to keep it on the shelf you just have to convince the wfe.
