1. Turn on xbox and you may have to start a game to be offered live update
2. Complete live update.
3. Try and play a xvid/divx video from console. It will prompt you to download an optional media update.
4. Download this update. Allows MPEG4 movies and unprotected AAC content
Then you can play your divx/xvid hasn't failed anything yet thrown at it.
you can also ff and rw traditionally the xvids and reume the show from where you last stopped watching it.
I am a happy camper.

Just finished the download myself, was very quick only took a minute at most.
Have been able to confirm the following with .avi's
In MC on the 360 .avi still come up with unknown video format when trying to play them
From my WHS box I was able to play a number of random .avi choices on the 360 by going via the Videos option on the Media tab. Tried files that were AC3 encoded, .avi, .xvid. Didn't come across one that didn't play which is a bonus.
I've got media sharing enabled on the WHS box which is an important part of watching .avi
s over the network. Real shame they won't work in the MC UI though
Cheers,
Matt.

yeah I wish they would to, but no need to as yet as currently beaten sony to punch and even when sony catch up they will still match its other for features. If the PS3 Media centre gets off the ground then ms better look at
Good that it plays them in the Xbox interface.. But absolutly spewing that it doesnt do it in the Media Center extender interface.. My mate who actually uses this setup will be soooo ****ed. - mostly cause his wife will hassle him!
Took me about 5 or 6 minutes to download the update at 9pm last night.. Not surprising though given the number of people who would have been downloading it :P
All avi's working well! I'm a happy camper too

Downloaded last nite as well. AVI's work fine from WHS. For whatever reason I cannot get access to my MCE box as it (xbox) cannot see it. The MCE box has WMP11 and can see the xbox- anyone know what could be causing this issue. Xbox can connect to MCE machine thru extender functionality - but I had to use older version of XBOXMCELITE to get it to work??
Still not happy that access is not available via extender interface and absolutley spewing that they have yet again ignored the 50Hz HD issue.

Yes - media sharing is enabled. It displays the 2 xboxes and another VMC machine. I allow total access to everything.
It seems that there's some problem broadcasting media sharing cabability from the MCE machine. I've tried turning off the firewall - but it doesn't change anything.
I Don't want to hijack this thread though - I may start another in the appropriate place.

Sorry, just a little confused. Could someone please confirm that this now means that DVD can be encoded into DIVX and accessed through the extender interface through something like mymovies or do you still have to WMV encode?
