To mark the beginning of spring, Microsoft is proud to announce the arrival of a new console in the Xbox 360TM family. Launching on 30 August for a recommended retail price of $729.95, the sleek black Xbox 360 Elite video game and entertainment system comes with a 120 GB hard drive, a high-definition* multimedia interface (HDMI) port, a HDMI cable, a black wireless controller, and an Xbox LIVE® headset.
Initially available in limited quantities, the Xbox 360 Elite joins the Xbox 360 and Xbox 360 Core consoles to offer consumers three choices this spring. The Elite console complements the existing Xbox 360 hardware portfolio to fully cater for a wide range of consumer wants and budgets.
Jeremy Hinton, Product Marketing Manager, Xbox Australia, says: “Xbox 360 Elite has been designed with a high-end enthusiast audience in mind. With HDMI support and a much larger storage capacity for games, the Xbox 360 Elite helps to satisfy our customers’ growing appetite for premium gaming and entertainment experiences.”
The Xbox 360 Elite console has enough space for a library of Xbox LIVE Arcade games and thousands of songs, hundreds of hours of downloadable game content and playable demos, as well as high-definition game trailers, music videos and more. The new 120GB hard drive is currently available as a stand-alone accessory to give current Xbox 360 console owners greater choice and flexibility in their games and entertainment experience.
Ideal for the enthusiast, the Xbox 360 Elite video game and entertainment system will include a 120GB hard drive, a high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) port, a high-definition cable, and a premium black finish for the console, black wireless controller and Xbox LIVE® headset.
To complement the sleek black finish of the Xbox 360 Elite, additional Xbox 360 Elite accessories, such as the black Xbox 360 Wireless Controller, Xbox 360 Play & Charge kit and the Xbox 360 rechargeable battery, are sold separately.

I would Love to Get One But I’m trying to justify the $800 to replace my currnet Xbox360 but I also want a new 120gb drive and they are worth $200+ But if EB games do a good trade in for my Current Xbox I might Get one. Does anyone know the trade in price for a 360 Pro??

I've dropped a Fathers' Day hint to the kids...
I hope it works

Apparently the Elite with its new improved cooling and heatsinks STILL gets the red ring of death just like the PRE new improved models. It has also been confirmed that the Elite STILL uses the 90nm CPU, and STILL uses the same disc destroying DVD drive. Nice one MS ....

I should hope so. It doesn't mention about the MR on the Overview Page, but if the higher-end 20GB version has one included which I believe it does, so should the even better one for $730.
I have a mate i have pretty much convinced to get an xbox360.
he has a hellishly pretty teev. its all black and shiny and 1080p and hungry for HDMI connectivity.
Do i tell him to get an elite? (obviously with all sorts of extended warranty).
Hes a big time FPS fan, but has a stupid PC gaming rig, so Bioshock isn't a seller for him. the big ones are Gears, and the conceptually similar Army of Two (November release).
What are the odds of AU getting the ?ultimate?... what was it, all the busted stuff fixed, white, with HDMI?
actually, on that point, is the HDMI on the xboxes giving the expected jump in clarity over component/VGA? or is it just providing a neater way to connect and send an analogue signal (obviously sampled up to digital for the transfer)
(And the reason I am not interwebbing this is all the interesting web stuff is blocked by my firewall, and i'm hoping one of the gurus on here knows all this already :P)
I'm sure the Elite will be better cooled and should thus should not suffer the RROD problem with such high probability, and it *is* nice and black.. It's still 90nm CPUs though..

Well guess what...
The Console Overview page has been updated so the Elite DOESN'T have a Media Remote.
Another let down by MS ....

I've been told that some major department stores have the Elite in stock now.
I'll probably take a lunch time walk to Myers (Sydney CBD) for a look. I'll report back later..
