Problems playing recorded content on networked PC

I recently upgraded my MCE 2005 to a digital tuner (Hauppauge Nova-T 500) and now find that I can't watch recorded TV shows on a networked PC. It used to work fine with the analogue tuner.

    I'm in Brisbane
    SBS & Ch7 work fine.
ABC - Vid but no audio
9 & 10 - I see the first frame but they don't play. If I move the slider along I can see another frame and occasionally it might play a few short sections in an extremely stuttery fashion but still with no audio. Audio wise I might get a blip or screech occasionally but that's it.

All PCs have the latest patches, WMP11 and the latest klcodec pack. I've spent quite some time going through previous posts but can't find a solution. The closest I found was this post but it didn't quite tell me what I might need to do.
Using graphedit I see ffdshow for the audio and video decoders for all files no matter what channel it was recorded from.

Any help appreciated. If it has been answered already please point me in the right direction.

The OzCableguy? If so, nice work all these years.

Anyway, the issue is that our DVB-T uses AC3 audio. Have a look for AC3Filter & install it on the networked PCs. Within AC3Filter there are numerous settings that you can play with, but the key one is "prefer AC3Filter". You may also need to disble AC3 in FFDSHow Audio.

Thanks Justin. Yep, it is I.
Some improvement with that suggestion. It now plays somewhat, but in a very jerky manner and the audio is just screeches and squawks.
I noticed the AC3Filter was included in the klcodec pack I had with "prefer AC3Filter" on already by default but I downloaded what appears to be a more recent version from http://www.free-codecs.com/AC3_Filter_download.htm.
AC3 was disabled in FFDSHow Audio already.

    OK,

The other problem you might have is that the included MPE2 decoder in FFDShow isn't really a great MPEG2 decoder. If you installed a full set of Codecs from klite, you probably also installed the Cyberlink codec (which should work).

Try this: disable any MPEG2 options in the FFDShow video settings - that should trigger the use of the next available decoder (hopefully Cyberlink).

Also, download & install Deccheck (easy to find, but also in the downloads section here) - it lets you select the MPEG2 decoder that you want to use (from your list of installed decoders).

See if that gets you going.

    Hmmm... Done, but no different.
Deccheck tells me it's using CyberLink Video/SP Decoder version 5.0.0.2226 as preferred. I might try an update of that and see what happens.

Doesn't klite include version 6.0.0.3402 of the Cyberlink decoder? Maybe that's only in the Full version (see here)

The best way to get things going is to uninstall all codecs (& then try & play a DVR-MS & get a no codec error to confirm that they're all gone), then do a manual install of klite disabling MPEG2 support in FFDShow & only installing the Cyberlink codec as the MPEG2 option, & disable AC3 support in FFDShow & install AC3Filter.

    Woohoo! We have a winner!

After installing a POS called "Boligego codec manager v1.0.4.2" which promptly caused WMP to crash on load and the uninstall option wouldn't work, I reinstalled K-Lite and had another look at it's AC3 options. You were on the money the first time but rather than "Prefer AC3Filter" there's another list of tick boxes under the system tab with the heading "Use AC3Filter For:". In there there's one for MPEG Audio and that's got me going perfectly now.
    Thanks for your help!

For anyone else looking for these AC3 options, if you install the K-Lite codec pack you'll find it Windows under Start > Programs > K-Lite Codec Pack > Configuration > AC3 Filter.
