Vista Ultimate - Many System servcies wont start error 7000 - account specified ..

I have a Vista Ultimate media center which I am now having some major problems with.

I am getting for many services, the error..

error: "The account specified for this service is different from the account specified for other services running in the same process". this started with the telephony service which would not start, (I was trying to setup remote desktop to my vista box.. and the remote access service is dependant on telephony).. so I started trying to fix it by just changing the logon details to "system" for remote access and all the dependant servcies.

This didnt work.. actually what happened is a lot of other services started showing this error. so then i decided to reset every service to system.... surely then I couldnt get this error... but even after resetting all services to logon as "system account", I get this error on about 1/3 of all services...

"The account specified for this service is different from the account specified for other services running in the same process" .

I cant roll back to a system restore point or backup, so I am really trying to figure out what I have to do to get the services to start...

Does anyone know if I just go through all services, and instead of using system, i use say administrator, and set them all to logon as administrator.. will that fix this..?

edit> I have tried resetting ALL services to system account, system service, and this doesnt work.. many core services fail, all with errors along the lines of that above.. which is usually error 7000, 7001 or similar...

the system is at the point where not even networking will work so its pretty much useless as is... and I am desperately trtying to avoid a re-install as I have done loads of customzation on this sytem..

I need some way of resetting the services back to that of a default configuration.. but it must also reset the user account specified for each service.. ie System, system service, network service etc..

Any help greatly apprecaited.

Cheers,
Dean.

Hi Dean,

Trying to trouble shoot this issue is a long and laborious task.

Something you could try, is to create a new account and make it 'Administrator'. If you can do this, set your new account up the way you want it. Then delete the old account.

By the sounds of it, you may not be able to do this, but its worth a shot. If that doesnt work, the most efficient solution may be to format c:[with all the caveats about backing up what you can/data will be lost etc etc].

I hope this helps, but I'm doubtful.

Cheers

if you cannot gain anything from the logs that is useful you could try reapplying the latest service pack to see if it resets all the services.

or restore from an img you [previously took of your installation of when things were working ?
