Re: FIJI Has been Released!

This is like the X-files - "I want to believe."

I don't like it, you guys don't believe it, but it is being distributed via OEM only.

Sorry.

I'll give you an example as to why you wouldn't use the current EIT in Fiji - how you expect the 4 attached shows to react to a series link?

Re: FIJI Has been Released!

But that is wrong to say that the EIT in Media Centre is not working.

The issue is with the Australian Broadcasters and the way they name shows, The EIT works, we are just deprived of quality data.

To say that technically it works is correct, but it's not that useful, currently there is no way to get SBS data (the now & next is not enough to schedule on SBS) & searching the EIT guide doesn't seem to work.

Others have been working on getting EIT in to the pre Fiji version & then add SBS data from online sources. Even that approach will not work in Fiji as the way EPG data is downloaded has completely changed (which is why FreeEPG & IceTV don't work).

As I said, I don't recommend that you install it on your main VMC.

Re: FIJI Has been Released!

Well, Personally I have it on my main HTPC and am happier than I was prior. Maybe I use my guide for more basic uses than other people. I do not schedule serie recording as I only record ad hoc programs. My main wish is to see what is on, it allows me to do that except for SBS(now, next).

Those people that apparently have the full, non-RC/BETA version, how did you get it?

Answer = very poorly.

I like NRL, and I live in Adelaide. The only way for anyone who lives in the day time world to watch it on channel 9 is to record it becuase its shown generally between midnight and 3 am. I then watch it in the next two days, ads and all because I'm often playing a board game with the kids and have it running as we do that because we're all interested. Why would I want to have to go looking for the two games that 9 show each week manually in a guide when I have some very complex expensive equipment that should be able to do it for me. When I used to do it manually I'd forget more than remember.

EIT may work well but it need decent data to make it practically functional. Spot on Justin!

Or you could just download it as a torrent with the ads already cut out.

Re: FIJI Has been Released!

Let me reiterate as I think it is important not to confuse the situation. "fiji" release having the ability to utilize EIT is a good thing, you cannot blame Microsoft for it mot working the way it should. The issue here is still with the Broadcasters not putting acurate, usable information into the data. Until we are able to force the broadcasters to improve the quality of EPG information no EPG in Australia will ever work properly unless you are prepared to spend time manipulating it, or pay Icetv for it.

Agree entirely.

Of course the only trick is that while we know for some strange reason broadcasters in Australia are serving up data that is sub standard, we realistically can't go to Fiji since there is no longer a way to get guide data from an aggregator (ie Ice, FreeEPG, etc) as opposed to direct from the EIT stream which the broadcasters provide. As such IMHO, Fiji has very limited practical use in Australia if you want a guide, and this is through no fault of Microsoft.

Re: FIJI Has been Released!

Yeah, but Ice and FreeEPG will get the data back into Fiji... it's not that it can't use external data, it's just that they changed the XML structure used.... I'm sure Ice will eventually support it.

Of course, Fiji bites so it don't worry me.

Yeah, it's just a matter of time.

They have actually changed more than just the XML structure BTW - the way the guide downloads updates is different too.
