Issues with KB950126?
this thread has 12 replies and has been viewed 1411 times
Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has had issues with this update 'Cumulative update for Media Center for Windows Vista' - which showed up (in NZ anyway!) a few days ago?
Since it installed, Vista MC seems more sluggish, and also quite frequently gives the 'Go to settings to add items to your library' message when I switch to the Music library, before (slowly) rendering the (300+) albums in there. It's like it's taking a while to realise that there already is a library there.
I've also been having some problems with restarts from standby, possibly since that update.
Anyway, I've uninstalled it for now, to see if these issues go away. I'd be interested to know if anyone else has any suspicions.

Cheers - David.
I installed it last night. When asked to restart the machine, I did. And then it booted up to the 'Stage 3 of 3' screen and stayed there overnight for 8 hours !!!!
So, this morning I switched off the PC.
A thumbs down for the update.

FWIW, so far, VMC seems much more responsive - back to its old self... - having uninstalled the update! As far as I can see, the main issue it was intended to resolve (some DRM flag thing for recording) wasn't one that affects NZ (or Australia for that matter).
Be interesting to see if anyone else has had the same problem as jsbbs - I got impatient with the step 3 of 3 window much sooner than that, and did a hard restart. The install finished but then I had the sluggishness thing until I uninstalled.
Still - it could easily be something else, so I'll wait and see what others have to say before assuming this has fixed it, and of course, long term the update will have to be installed, updates yet-to-come will demand it, I imagine.
As for the DRM not being for Australia, I noticed this morning that ABC kids which I regularly record for the kids is now "copyright protected".
Given the importance of Brum, Wiggles, The Upside Down Show, Gerald McBoing Boing etc in my household, this would be an abject distaster. I won't be installing the update until I hear more about this.

An update...
Last night, I powered up the PC. It went to the 'Stage 3 of 3' screen and only took two minutes to perform.
I then powered up my jet engine (aka XBOX360) and it appears to have only made one effect; the multi-card reader isn't appearing as 5 drives ! That's a good start. (However, my Brother LAN printer is still appearing! WTF?)
When jet engine gets a workout (on the weekend), I'll report back on how the update affects the extender side of things...

Yes I did have an issue after installing this update.
at the end of a recorded tv program instaed of going to the Finnished screen the screen just went blank/black no Done/restart/Keep/delete section..
So I unistalled the update and now its all OK..
Re: Issues with KB950126? - UPDATE from original poster
All,
Yesterday, Windows Update redid the KB950126 update for me (I was powering down to install a new tuner and had some mouse trouble and clicked the wrong shutdown option i.e. the one that installed downloaded but not yet installed updates ).
Oh well... anyway, back up and running now with the update, and no apparent problems this time around - perhaps a clean power-down, power-up installation has done the trick this time, versus the messy one last time when the kids may (or may not) have confused the poor machine inadvertently.
OTOH, I'll be keeping an eye out for some of the issues others seem to have encountered. The ones that were bothering me - sluggish UI behaviour and momentary (yet annoying) forgetfulness about the library - haven't reappeared.
Meanwhile, I'm managing updates myself or at least running them at a time when I'm awake to make sure they 'stick'...
