Mike,
My guess is that so far the patch is holding as nobody seems to be posting about problems. Of course the issue only ever arose for most of us on weekends and so far lots of people haven't had the patch through a weekend. Personally I applied the fix last Friday and haven't had a problem since which is a really good sign. I guess it's fair to say though "One swallow does not a summer make." Rest assured you will hear about it if the issue arises again.
P.S. Thanks again for your work on this. I'm sure I speak for most of us in saying we are very grateful for your involvement and interest and for the attention that Microsoft as a whole has paid to this issue..
Re: Loosing Channels / Guide disappearing – IceTV and Vista (Possibly also MCE2005)
I had the problem everytime I recorded on Prime Southern.
It would happen slightly differently in that the reception would deteriorate and become jerky/blocky, and then the channel would disappear completely. I've recorded 7 every day now, and have not had any problems whatsovever.

I am not trying to rain on anyone's parade but have I have not installed either of the two patches to act as a one-data-point "control".
Even without the patches, I have not had a problem either, so I think we need to wait a little longer (even better if I do, and others in Sydney with the patch don't) to know.

Agreed. It's far too early to know whether we have an effective fix yet. The good news is that in all likelihood the problem appears to have gone away if you consider the fact that some people had this problem almost daily and it appears to have stopped. Whilst anything but a definitive test, it certainly is a good indication and cause for optimism.

I had one problem today.
VMC was on live TV and all of a sudden the TV reported no signal. I pressed play and the signal came back. When the screen appeared VMC reported on the bottom right corner it encountered an error updating the guide.

Hold Up, What about MCE2005?
Will there be a fix for this as well?
I actually haven't had the problem for some months but I definately experienced the same problem.
I guess I have to upgrade, is that the answer.
I have the disc just can't be stuffed spending time working on a desktop now.
Give me a hardware recorder over software anyday (PS I know they all have software).

Yes I was also experiencing exactly the same symptoms with channels disappearing on XP MCE2005. Would be nice if a similar patch could be issued to fix it as well now that the problem has been isolated.

If it was only opportunistic scanning that was causing the problem, wouldn't everybody have been losing channels?
Could be lots of (speculative) answers:
1) not everyone has their machines on when channel ID's change so the scanning would "miss" the opportunity to screw up.
2) Signal strength issues (I only ever seem to get screw ups during bad weather)
3) Different brands of tuners being more sensitive/less sensitive.
