Re: Loosing Channels / Guide disappearing – IceTV and Vista (Possibly also MCE2005)
I hate to throw a spanner into your theory's works, but I always block any channel I'm not interested in and re-order the ones I do wanna use, have been for the 9 months I've been using this thing. My guide has always updated automatically and I rarely have problems, or need to re-install the guide (rencent issue trying to combat the eShell error reported aside).

Re: Loosing Channels / Guide disappearing – IceTV and Vista (Possibly also MCE2005)
apologies if this is answered somewhere else within this magnificent site - but what do we think the cause behind only one, two, maybe three, maybe all channels having 'unknown' listings across the entire day?
it's totally random. tomorrow it'll be a different channel.
only once have i ever seen all channels have all data. but like i say, totally random - so i think my end is working ok?

Re: Loosing Channels / Guide disappearing – IceTV and Vista (Possibly also MCE2005)
now not knowing exactly how the guides work, I qould not be suprised that if in editing channels order and numbering that the guide could get confused and drop listings for a channelbut I think this thread is more about when teh channel itself dissapears form the guide not just the listings.
If you have a channel with no listings, what happens when you go in to add listings to channel ? can you add them back ? what about if you do a download latest guide ?
Re: Loosing Channels / Guide disappearing – IceTV and Vista (Possibly also MCE2005)
I'd like to try to confirm the problem this is supposed to fix. As a MSDN subscriber I downloaded Vista RTM about 2 months ago and used Vista MCE until last weekend because the problem I was having with the guide was driving me nuts. When I set up MCE, the first thing I will do is disable/hide all the channels other than 1, 2, 3, 7, 9, 21 and 33 (i don't renumber anything). I then add listings to the channels.
All's fine until some random time, and then when I open the guide, I still have 7 channels listed, however, they're channels like 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 29, 37. I'm not sure if the numbers are always the same, but some are channel numbers that don't actually exist. The channels that appear that don't exist are usually given the name "Channel 7 Digital 1/2/3". These channels have no guide listings, but the valid channel numbers that remain in the guide do keep their guide listings.
Rebooting doesn't fix it. Telling it to update guide listings doesn't fix it. The only thing I found that does fix it is rescanning for channels. When I did this, I'd not only lose a few minutes while it scanned and I'd have to hide all the channels again and assign guide listings, but all my scheduled recordings would be lost and I'd have to set them up again.
Is this the problem that should be fixed?
In the 2 weeks leading up to Vista's official release it was happening to me very often, sometimes every day (when I first installed Vista it would usually happen once a week or two weeks). Like I said, last weekend I got fed up and installed XP MCE, but I slightly prefer Vista, but I don't want to spend 2-3 hours reinstalling vista just to find a few days later this doesn't fix the problem I had and have to spend another 2-3 hours installing XP MCE again (plus fiding everything I want to record and schedule recordings again). thanks.
Re: Loosing Channels / Guide disappearing – IceTV and Vista (Possibly also MCE2005)
I've done a bit of tinkering now on 4 different MCE PCs - all suffering from this exact problem.
I've got them all working fine now and i think I've narrowed the cause down to 7 DIGITAL 1.
On 1 of them the eshell process crashed whenever I went into "Edit Channels".
On the other 3 it went in but when I scanned down the list the eshell proccess crashed as soon as I got to 7 DIGITAL 1 - wherever it was in the list.
The solution I found for all 4 was to completely delete all of the channels and do a complete rescan from scratch - including the full initial guide selection/download EULA process.
No more glitches... Don't know if it will hold but at least I didn't need to mess with any services or registry entries...
Would be interested to know if 7 have changed anything - broadcast frequency, encoded metadata or something like that?
Re: Loosing Channels / Guide disappearing – IceTV and Vista (Possibly also MCE2005)
Zivkan - yes sounds very similar / the same. I have had no glitches now for 3 guide updates... The fix is really non obtrusive and can easily be undone if neccessary.
Harlequin - 7 Digital appears to be the major culprit... I loved it when 7 would not show, all the other 7 channels get shown, you go into edit - and the item in place where 7 should be cant be selected or deselected.... Seven did change their name for the tennis on a couple of channels, but would have nothing to do with it I am sure, and of course there have been no frequency changes otherwise you would hear about it from all the stb owners!!!

Thanks. I'll reinstall Vista when I get the time, probably this weekend.

Also the instructions you've given for un-installing KeepKey are not complete. You'll have to un-register the service as well, not sure on the exact command line for doing this but it'll be similar to the one used to install the service in the first place.
Anyone care to put up the instructions on how to unregister Keepkey?
Re: Loosing Channels / Guide disappearing – IceTV and Vista (Possibly also MCE2005)
fyi keep key screwed me over after around 2-3 days. No longer have SBS and can't seem to enable it again. On the other hand I now have SBS radio channels enabled out of the blue lol. Will try to reset and rescan. I've now disabled mce update and hope I have better luck.
