Re: Burning recorded TV to DVD to play in stand alone player

I have downloaded the sonicencoder.msi and now when i choose create cd/dvd on mce nothing happens. I have uninstalled and still nothing happens. This feature was working prior to installing the encoder. Does anyone know what to do?

Hi Rodrigov

It should just integrate into the MCE shell and present iteself when you choose the create a dvd option.

I've used it to transcode some avi's that my digital camera created into a dvd I could distribute to others, and it worked really well. I store my content on one of my servers, and soon discovered that you have to move whatever you want to the local disk, which is PITA, but one that I can live with.

The conversion/burning is a pretty slow process, and the CPU was getting hit pretty hard during this process. MCE stayed pretty responsive though, HT is a good thing...

Just go to the info on a recorded file with the remote and select create CD/DVD. If the encoders are installed correctly they SHOULD burn to a format that can be played on a standalone player.

This certainly doesn't work for everyone though.

i think this just burns a dvr-ms file that can be played on media centers and MP10, to make a dvd you need software like Arcsoft Quick DVD, i can use it through mce interface to put a recorded show on dvd, works for all stations except when i try to burn a show from sbs for some reason it dosent work

It will just burn the DVR-MS file unless you have the sonic encoders installed which is what we were discussing.

Re: Burning recorded TV to DVD to play in stand alone player

Hi guys.

I am skimming through the posts and haven't read all the may to the end so forgive me if this question has already been answered.

When you buy a 3 pack of MCE2005 discs from your wholesaler , you get a WindowsXp Media Centre Edition Multimedia Feature Pack on DVD with 1.91Gb of goodies on it along with the usual MCE2005 OPK Disc. The OEM system builder documentation provides command line switches to install the sonic encoder, plus music videos and tunes.

There are separate licensing requirements for this content. It is at the system builder's discretion as to whether the content is installed - or basically if they can be bothered reading the 8 page OEM preinstallation guide.

I reckon Microsoft should start releasing MCE2005 on DVD, instead of 2 cd's. That way they could include the bonus content and operating system on the one disc. MCE is an "experience" for the new user, and it would be nice to dump th 1.77gb already set out in the \Samples\Documents folder on the dvd straight into the docs folder of a new installation to give the customer pretty to look at when they finally get he system plugged in and working.

Have fun

Happy green buttoning

Nik

This is quite funny, I phoned my supplier about 2 weeks ago to ask them about the "mysterious" 3rd cd, the reply i got had to make me laugh. Basically whenever they get the 3pack bundles from MS, they split them open and toss the extra cd in a cardboard box. This cardboard box was actually pretty much overflowing by that stage so they were throwing them in the bin! Needless to say I now have several copies of the third disc. As an FYI the disc is a DVD. The movies and music on it are all DRM protected so you can't copy them or burn them!

Re: Burning recorded TV to DVD to play in stand alone player

Hi guys,

Thought I'd reply here rather than posting a new topic.

I have videos (in "My Videos") that I've been burning to video CD (using the sonicencoders.msi add-in, from within MCE) and it's working really well, except for one thing:

The video files are 16:9, but the resulting DVDs aren't - they're non-anamorphic 4:3 DVDs with black bars top and bottom.

Is there a way to force MCE to create a 16:9 DVD from a 16:9 video? I figured it would just detect the aspect ratio and create the DVD correctly, but it hasn't.

Cheers,
mabster

Re: Burning recorded TV to DVD to play in stand alone player

I am having trouble with this program.

When i go to burn recorded TV, MC tells me there is not enough disk space.

I have tried changing the TEMP and TMP locations in user environment variables and system variables to a new location and also the temp directory in the cd drive properties, but no change!!

Does anyone know the temp location for the burn cd/dvd app?
