OK - I've been tinkering with MCE plugins, and as a test I wrote 'NowShowing'. It's just a little app that lets you check out what's playing at your local cinemas (currently Hoyts and Greater Union cinemas only).
I quite like this - saves me having to dig around the various websites to find the cinema times. Pity it times out on dialup (but I'll be back on broaband when I get home).
Meanwhile, I can check out what is on at Warrawong :P
just a small request.... ive looked @ MANY plugins for MCE... and 2 things ive noticed are missing... one is the interface.... most plugins dont work well in the MCE interface.... personaly i think this is a must!!! secondly is the config... lots of plugins take u from the 10ft interface to the 2ft interface to config the plugin then it works in the 10ft interface from then on... my problem is my keyboard and mouse are NO WHERE near the MCE PC so this allways ****ES me off....
anyway.. going to install this later... see how it goes
Don't worry - after installation, she's configured entirely on 10foot. But I may be having remote-control issues. I know it works with the keyboard remote (and I just LOVE the microsoft keyboard/remote control rig) but don't worry - if it turns out that the remote control buttons don't work, there will be an update out in around 30 minutes time.
The interface still isn't scaled right though - at least on 4:3 TV's. One of my problems is that I'm developing this stuff on a machine that's in a different room to the actual media center PC, so I can't appreciate the scaling on the TV unless I go in there, log back in & ass around there. Then I have to go back in to the development machine, remote-connect to the Media Center...you get the drill.
But I'm hoping to make this work like and look like the real thing as much as possible.
OK - uploaded a new version that should have better remote control support, and an interface that hopefully looks a little bit more like the real MCE interface. Do people find it better? Or worse? I've got a nice media center, but a fairly iffy old TV, so if this looks lousy on a nice-sized widescreen plasma or LCD, let me know.
AfricanDiscus...I have absolutely no idea what's going in there. They are fairly simple OCX controls. They don't even really DO anything during registration. Uh... OK - I've made a change, moving some of the work outside of the registration process and into the installer. Could you please download it again and see if it installs properly?

Very, very strange. Hmm...OK, this is an obvious question - but you ARE logged in as an administrator when you install this, aren't you? You probably can't install this program when you are a standard user.
Well, with the most recent version I don't do ANYTHING during the control registration - I just let Windows/MFC do all of it's regular tricks. OK - I'm uninstalling my copy, cleaning everything out of the registry and I'm going to try installing it fresh on my media center.
