Refresh Changer - Win7 beta

It's put in the Extras library within MCE, you can put it on the extras strip like any normal application (i don't like adding new strips, I leave it to the individual to decide where it should go).
As for mapping it to a remote button, it can be done, you just need to intercept the remote button (however you want to do that) and get it to run this command:
It's not that difficult, I already have an app that can read the refresh rate of a video file, so all I would need to do is pass it the URI of the playing file and prompt for the restart.
It's not something I've looked into in any great detail at the moment though.
I think it would be something people would want to have your children for if they could have an app that worked out the refresh rate and set it automatically.
To automate things even more is something I would want to have your children for.

Media Control does this to a certain extent. I have it installed on my 7MC. I have found that it picks up the refresh rate on some video files, but not all. The other problem that I find with it is that it can change the refresh rate once detected, however it wont change it back to 50hz. This can be a pain because Media Control does not recognise the refresh rate on Live TV.
In the end, I now stick to the wonderful app in this thread, it might be manual, but its reliable!
How do you decide to change the refresh rate in the first place?
When you start a video that you have found on the net, do you run it through something like Gspot first to discover the refresh rate and then change it manually?
That to me would seem somewhat annoying to have to do every time prior to watching.
I'm actually working on a function that if a video is playing when you enter Refresh Changer, it will report the refresh rate on the page. That way you know what refresh rate to pick.
In most cases though, it's fairly easy to figure out what the refresh rate is given the source of the file you're about to watch.
I personally don't change my refresh rate anyway, so i don't even use my own application

Lol. The fact that you don't use it is great.
I like the idea of what you are working on. A lot of the time the files I watch dont always have a good indication of the refresh rate in the title and so I end up having to run it through something like Gspot. The problem with that is the dropping to the desktop to do so.
Yeah, I actually built the first version specifically for Logifuse, because he used MCLock to lock out people from the desktop his existing solution wouldn't work. That's why there's the reference to MCLock.exe in the settings.xml file.
So, I don't use it myself but i've continued development on and off to while away the commute. And since I'm not a programmer, it takes me longer to do most things

Your new functionality would be spot on.
Yeah, I understand, the whole idea is not to have to drop to the desktop so it's something that'll definitely make it at some point. Just having a few issues with some of the other stuff on the list that needs to come before I add this feature.
/mediamode - removes the minimise/maximise/close buttons from MCE
/noshutdownui - removes the shutdown/restart/close option from the Main Menu.
Someone still use the keyboard to Alt-Tab to the desktop and play around, but if you only leave the remote lying around it should stop the casual user from fiddling.

Rule of thumb is that anything (other than studio based TV) from the US will be 23.976FPS, anything from the UK/Europe will be 25FPS & studio based content from the US will be 29.97FPS.
I basically watch anything that isn't 25FPS @ 59.94Hz (as it will be either 1:2 or 2:3 pull up).

I know that bit, its just if I grab something I do not always know where it originally came from (I use Easynews) and so it may have come from the US or possibly the UK or even here.
That is why it is a pain to have to drop out to see the FPS and then change the refresh rate.
DG's added functionality would negate the need to drop to desktop which would be good.
