I just tried installing this on Windows 7RC and an error message came up saying "Refresh Changer can only be installed on Vista Home Preium, Vista Ultimate or Windows 7 Beta 7000+". Does this mean that I can't use it on RC?
Many thanks to dgaust with all the help to get this app up and running. Just incase anybody else has similar problems, make sure that you install the program to the default directory (Application 2), otherwise it will not run properly.
I used the default directory, however it still says invalid application.
I am using 64bit, so it installs it under program files(x86). Should I change it to just plain program files?
Thanks.

It's not built for 64bit, but you could try copying the directory from the ProgramFiles(x86) directory into the Program files one (leave the dir in the x86 directory as well.
If I ever rebuild my desktop, I'll fix it for you.
I really appreciate this app, but I have noticed that sometimes when I change the resolution within 7MC, it flicks back to the desktop, then 7MC restarts in the correct resolution (normal so far), but once it has started if I start to navigate the menu within say 10 seconds of it starting back up, all of a sudden the task bar comes up down the bottom and I need to alt + tab back into 7MC. To top it off, the refresh rate is then back to what it was. Strangely, if I leave the remote alone when 7MC initially reboots for say 20 seconds, I avoid this problem.
Can this be run from a copmmand line? Just thinking that this could be run from AnyDVD's "run external program" feature to automatically select 60Hz when an NTSC DVD is inserted, then set back to 50Hz when it is removed.

Yes. Because 7MC needs to be closed, the actual changing of the refresh rate is done via a command line tool, called KillandRun.exe which is located in the install directory.
Basically it would be, killandrun.exe 1920x1080@50hz etc where the resolution and refresh rate are what you want to set it to.
edit: Actually, the version of killandrun available for Vista is slightly different. PM me, and I'll send you a custom version in the morning.
This is a fab app. My only prob at the mo is that I have a 1024x768 plasma and want to use that res at different refresh rates within 7MC but using a widescreen aspect ratio. When I input 1024x768 in the XML file I end up with a stretched UI in 7MC instead of the proper aspect ratio I normally get at that res - this is because 7MC allows me to specify a 16:9 aspect ratio in the set-up.
Is there any way I can do this using Refresh Rate Changer?
Why don't you try/use dgaust's Refresh Rate Changer (V1 is for Vista)?
I remember trying this quite a while back, I just checked the "program library" menu in VMC and it was still there.
I've just given it a test - and while it does exit & restart media centre, it doesn't end up changing the refresh rate. If I use VMC setup and select 50 or 59, it changes to that frequency - but using RRC whilst at 50 or 59 to switch to the other frequency just leaves it at whatever VMC is set to.
After manually selecting 59 from the setup menu - I played a 23.976 mkv and it wasn't that much better than when played with the refresh rate set to 50Hz.
I think I'm just going to have to put up with the jitter (or is it judder?) until I can justify a new screen (pretty hard to do when I spent $5000 on my current screen just over four years ago).

Once you've set the option in MC, you've probably disabled the ability for MC to open at a different rate.
Find the EnableRefreshRateChange key in the registry & set it to 1.
Close MC & go to your graphics card control panel. RRC relies on you having identical options configured for your different refresh rates. If you use desktop resize/overscan correction, the screen size must be exactly the same size for 50Hz as it is for 59Hz. You must also go through & try setting the graphics (just in windows) to both.
Once that's done, MC should be able to open at a different rate to the desktop if requested (what we want).
If you're still having issues, you may need to extend the delay between closing & re-opening MC as if it hasn't fully closed by the time it tries to reopen, the registry entry changing the 50Hz to 59Hz (or vice versa) won't be unlocked for changing).
Better move any other questions to the RRC thread (I might do that for these posts).
Justin
