Refresh Rate Changer
this thread has 38 replies and has been viewed 5496 times
Oops! Better check your PM's. I just tested it properly and it's still not updating the desktop refresh rate. From my experience there needs to be a greater delay after setting the desktoip refresh rate and before restarting ehome. Obviously I can't be 100% certain that's the issue but it certainly made the difference for me with my AutoHotkey scripts.
It sorta does.... in an attempt to capture things like PlayMovie or PowerDVD playback. Which is where you really want 24hz playback (if your display supports it).

This is something I reckon I could use, especially having watched a movie this afternoon that had a stutter effect every couple of seconds due to not having been encoded at 25hz.
What I wonder is, does anybody know if there is an app that can be run from within MCE that I could run to tell me what the framerate is before I run it? Please not Media Control though as I know that is supposed to be able to auto swicth but I have never had any joy with it as an app in MCE.
I am not bothered about auto switching (although that would be cool) when I run a movie with a different refresh rate but if I could know prior it would be great. I could just use Gspot of course outside of MCE but if there if was an app that runs in MCE and gives the same info it would be cool.
Or maybe DG could just put some of his new but expert MCML skills to work and conjure up something......
I have just installed it on Vista Ultimate. How do I access it to change the refresh rate? I have looked through VMC and cannot find it anywhere. It is not in the Start/Programs menu, but appears as an installed program in add/remove programs.

I'd be really keen to see if anyone has got this to work without having to close eshell.exe.
For me that's the only gap here.
I tried to minimise and maximise the window but I couldn't get that to work properly. My script kept coming up with errors.

I'm not with you. You're in VMC @ 50Hz, you go in to refresh rate changer & select 59Hz & then what happens?
What are your UAC settings & have you set up the same resolution with the different refresh rates outside of VMC?
Justin

The above is the link from the Media Control forum and the link below is the guys exe to change his refresh rate. From what I see he is assigning the change to macros on his remote.
Maybe this can be extended slightly to perform what is needed. The Media Control post gives some info on how it may be possible to achieve without the need to minimise / maximise.
The perfect solution would be not having to minimise/close the window, but as the post at the MediaControl site, it really needs someone to use reflection on the Microsoft code itself in order to get it working.
Something I'm not really willing to take on since any changes to the dll can break compatibility with the app.
I'd just love MS to come to the rescue here. They now provide their own codecs for just about every format, I hope they come to realise that automatic changing of refresh rate based on the video file would be a brilliant addition.

I know that some of the gurus on the site are quite tightly integrated with MS when it comes to Win 7 so is this something that can be thrown forward to MS for implementation?
Does Mike Hayton still venture onto the forum from time to time? This would be an awesome feature to integrate into either Vista or Win 7 (or XP for those still using it for MCE).
