Tv Library

Hey

Andrew Cherry has just released the new Tv Show library application for Vista Media Centre. Andrew Cherry created Saved TV, then More Tv now Tv library is for Vista in MCML. Tv library is still a working title. An interview with Andrew about the new application can be heard in the leatest episode of The Media Centre Show HERE The download link is also in the link.

I know i have really wanted an application like this for a long time, i have been waiting for the one by Niall but in his bolg he has stated that he may not be going ahead because of legal reasons.

I thought i would set up this Thread so people can talk about the new app and help people with problems they are having with it.

Ryan

Re: Tv Library

Well, I've downloaded an installed but I get to the part where I have to add a watched folder but neither the next or cancel button work, so I can't get get any further to test.

Re: Tv Library

Hi,

I've been following this for a while over on The Green Button. If the version you've got is the same as the version over there, you have to do a manual registry hack to get it to work - here's Andrew's post from over there:

Quote:
To configure, at the moment there is a registry entry you need to make as follows:

Create the registry key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Digital Living Solutions\TV Library

Create a REG_MULTI_SZ value under that key called

LibraryFolders

and add the paths to the registry value that you want to appear as the main "folders" in the application.

When you run the application, you should see folders for the paths you added. Click on one of these and you'll see the files and folders in that folder.

You can customise the folders by adding a folder.jpg file in the folder which will then be displayed for that folder, and the program will extract thumbnails from supported file types for display in the app.

I'll post some more details about how to further customise the views etc. later.

If you have any comments, bug reports, etc. please send them to tvlibrary at digitallivingsolutions.co.uk
The thread over at Green Button is http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/thread/144287.aspx

I installed it last night and got it working pretty quickly - it's pretty nice. The metadata management is the only thing I don't like as it uses XML files - one per video.

Hope that helps!

Re: Tv Library

I gave it a go... even with the above fix I didn't get very far.

Re: Tv Library

At the risk of sounding rude, but just what does it do ??? In all honesty, I can't be bothered going thru a podcast just to find the details.

Re: Tv Library

I haven't fiddled around with it as yet, but from the podcast it seems to aggregate your videos/tv/dvds etc into the one area.

You can also apparently display it as a folder tree listing.

I might have a play around tomorrow and provide more info.

Re: Tv Library

Hey

Sorry i kinda assumed u guys might know what it did. OK well the program is for people have alot of tv shows saved on their HDD either recorded or downloaded. ATM the only option is to use the videos section in VMC but this is an application especially designed for tv shows so it will include meta data about the show etc (kinda like my movies for tv shows)

and this is the very first release so that'll b y it isnt workin but thanx "smee" for the reg fix shall give it a go.

Riiight. Sounds very nice and certainly effective. This sort of thing would rate high on my payware should it ever become a stable release.

Re: Tv Library

For those of you wanting to know what TV Library looks like and does, here's a link to the post within that long thread that actually has screenshots.

http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/per...ad.aspx#196078

I've played with it a little. It's promising but still needs a fair bit of work. It has sparked my interest in MCML though and I may try and write my own version :-)
